Certain people are born with magic power. When they say spells while channeling magic, they can alter reality. That's probably as deep as I'll get as "how" magic works. I'm a guy, but I don't like sharing much more than that about myself.

Pretty sure it's supposed to be nepotism which is essentially when a family member pulls strings to get another family member hired or given preferential treatment at a job.
