Lore Entry: Changelings (Patreon)

Changelings in the world Warden lives in are Old Ones based. Old Ones are cosmic monsters who ties in well with our fear of the unknown. Our fear of being small and ultimately being inconsequential. We would not be able to navigate their multidimensional existences and it would be the same for them in ours, slipping into and out of nothing without concern for our understanding of reality or physics. But sometimes an Old One wants to walk the world as we walk; free of the limitations and pains of bringing their bodies in our world. So they crafted a way to puppet a body or to wear one much like an astronaut wears a suit. Changelings are their suits.

Of course, with enough rituals or proximity they can wear any person as their skin suit. Warping the flesh as to better fit their forms before it dissolves into a mass of cancer and tentacles. Even with the lightest touch - the signs of corruption are readily apparent. Ill-fitting and easily noticeable. But Changelings are their tailor made clothes. Ones that can hold for longer before being forced to be in the nude. 

Most Changelings are not thralls worshipping the Old Ones. Most abhor their origins and fear Old Ones like any other sane entity. Many dedicate their lives to fighting them and their cultists. Others are amorally hedonistic and live for themselves as monsters. Most Changelings are monitored by the Thousand Travelers and lead normal lives.
