While a prosperity spell isn’t going to deliver the winning lottery numbers to your door, it certainly can give a little boost to your efforts to increase your income and protect your assets this year.

This little spell is a basic charm. It’s simple enough for the beginner, as there is no ritual circle required, no calling of deities or elements, and no specialized Wiccan tools. So even if you’re new to magical practices, don’t be afraid to give it a go.

I’ll walk you through it here; read through it once so you know what to expect. I’m trying to be thorough here in explaining everything so it’s a bit lengthy, but it’s really basic (yet potent!) so don’t shy away because of the length.

Spell Timing

I originally designed this spell years ago to take advantage of the energy of the New Year’s Eve countdown celebration—the energy of which will override any magical timing that might not be conducive to the working.

Remember that spells work by directing energy toward a goal—on New Year’s Eve when everyone is shouting “Happy New Year!” there is a tremendous release of energy—not just in your own home or neighborhood, but in the entire time zone. Basically, all that energy is going to be generated and released, with most of it just returning to the Earth by morning. Don’t let it go to waste—take advantage of it!

Don’t worry—it won’t interfere with your New Year’s Eve celebrations. As long as you do the preparation for the spell in advance, you can actually do the casting right there and then, in the middle of a crowded New Year’s celebration—even if you’re standing in the middle of Times Square, no one will be any the wiser.

However, New Year’s Eve might not be possible for you. That’s okay—you can still do the spell, just choose timing more conducive to your working to lend it optimal energies. The powers of the waxing moon are really essential here. The best timing is when the moon is in Capricorn (for money from work and effort), Sagittarius (for luck gambling), or Taurus (for money matters in general). If it falls on a Tuesday or a Sunday, all the better.

If you know how to calculate planetary hours, it's best done in the first, fourth, eighth, or eleventh planetary hour.

You Will Need:

- 5x5 inch patch of green or brown fabric, preferably silk, satin or some other “rich” fabric.

- Gold or green ribbon

- 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon in a small bowl

- 4 sesame seeds (you can buy a container of whole sesame seeds in the supermarket spice section)

- Gold coin or any coin

Now, don’t panic. I know gold coins are hard to come by these days—finding one can be hard enough; finding one with a certain year can be impossible. It’s okay…it doesn’t have to be solid gold.

You can use any coin, actually—a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter. You just have to make it gold by covering it with gold leafing or painting it gold. Just make sure the leafing or the paint you use contains actual gold, and cover the coin in it (one side at a time). Worst comes to worst, you could melt some gold crayon wax onto it.

Creating the Charm

Step 1: The very first thing you should do is prepare your coin to make it gold and, if painting it, let the paint dry.

Step 2: Go outdoors in daylight hours with all of your items. Go somewhere you can lay them down on the ground, or on a picnic table or somewhere outdoors if possible, but somewhere you’re shielded from the wind, or your components may blow away.

If outdoors isn’t possible, do it by a window when the sun is streaming through. If doing it under daylight isn’t possible at all, light a white candle and do it by candlelight.

Step 3: Spread out the square of fabric on the surface before you. In your mind, compare it to a patch of Earth—either green and grassy (if the fabric is green), or as rich, tilled soil (if it is brown). Reflect on it of being like the fertile Earth, from which all things spring. The Earth gives us all material goods.

Step 4: Pick up the cinnamon in the bowl. Without getting too close to it (you don’t want to accidentally breathe it in, as cinnamon dust is an irritant), inhale the rich, earthy scent. Cinnamon is a spice of the Sun and of the sacred element Fire—like the Earth is fertile ground for material goods, cinnamon is fertile ground for planting seeds of ambition and desires.

Meditate on this connection for a few minutes. Empty the cinnamon onto the fabric in a small pile.

Step 5: Take your sesame seeds; empty four seeds onto your dominant hand. Start thinking about the four seeds you will be planting this year to ensure financial success: financial planning, wise investments/savings, being frugal and working hard.

Envision yourself sitting at the kitchen table creating a budget plan, calculating your bills, looking for jobs or wise investments, clipping coupons, doing things yourself rather than paying for them (like making your own lunch or coffee instead of going out for it at work).

Squeeze the seeds in your hand as you visualize yourself doing these things in as detailed a way as your mind can conjure up.

When you’re finished, ‘plant’ the seeds in the cinnamon. Hold your hands over it, touching the tips of your index fingers and thumbs, to form a sort of diamond-shaped opening between the hands. Let the rays of the Sun funnel through that opening, charging the components with solar energy.

Step 6: Take your coin and lay it on top. The coin acts as a ‘seal’ for your intentions. Having your birth year on it, the coin is connected to you. The gold represents all your potential and abilities for success.

Step 7: Gather up the edges of the fabric and tie it with the ribbon to create a small pouch.

Charging the Charm on New Year’s Eve

Keep the charm bag on you at all times until New Year’s Eve.

As midnight arrives, start to become aware of the building energy around you. That’s the energy built off the excitement and hopes of millions of people. Just before midnight on New Year’s Eve, take your little charm out and hold it in your dominant hand.

When the countdown arrives, hold out your non-dominant (your receptive) hand with the palm facing outward. You don’t have to be conspicuous. Just hold it up over your head, or up at chest-height, as though you’re just excited like everyone else. You should have your charm in the other hand.

As the countdown commences, imagine your hand is like a giant electro-magnet you’ve turned on. Envision all that energy in the air, all over the city—the state, the entire time zone—building and building. It’s the energy of millions of people, and envision it gathering and gathering and gathering into your hand through the whole countdown.

At midnight, put your hands together with the charm bag and shout, “Happy New Year!” In your mind, know it will be happy because you will become wealthier. Hold the charm between your hands and direct that energy into the bag. Envision it pouring into the bag, the bag is absorbing it—notice how it’s just tingling and pulsating with power.

It’s best not to keep the bag directly on your person for a while, as it is quite potent. Hang it or place it on a shelf somewhere in your home or office. If you own a business with a till, put it into the till. If you have a drawer for your finances, where you keep your checkbook and credit cards and bills and such, put it in there.

After a couple of months, you can start carrying it around in your purse or pocket for the rest of the year. At the Summer Solstice, you can recharge it and bury it on your property if you like (but it’s not necessary—if you don’t, it will continue to carry you through the year).

Charging It Another Time

If you can’t charge it on New Year’s Eve, you can use this spell at any point between New Year and the next Solstice (that would be Summer Solstice for those in the Northern hemisphere; Winter Solstice for those in the Southern hemisphere). For some reason, when the energies of the Solstice shift you into a waning Sun, it just doesn’t give it the same power.

When the correct timing arrives, you’ll have to build your own energy. What is the best way you usually do this? Chanting? Stomping? Dancing? Standing still and drawing it from the elements around you?

Whatever is your preferred way of raising energy, do it. Try to keep it up for at least 15 minutes, longer if you can. Draw in the energy, sensing it building and building, directing it to your receptive (non-dominant) hand. Hold the charm in the projective (dominant) hand.

When you feel you’ve built all the energy you can, put your hands together and pour it into the bag, yelling (or saying very firmly), “This is the start of a new, prosperous cycle for me!”

Unlike bags charged on New Year’s Eve, you can keep this one on your person, so you can put it directly into your pocket or bag, or you can stash it somewhere related to your finances (your home office, your workspace, etc.) that you feel it would be most effective.

You can re-cast this spell every year; in my experience, its effects are cumulative and get stronger every year. Enjoy, and a healthy, wealthy New Year to you!
