Space: the final frontier. And thanks to the Ravenous’s crew, it would the final resting place for the New Hope’s passengers. Along with one other. . .
Patri, rhino captain of the Ravenous, received the distress signal early into their flight. With a smirk on his face, he said, “Communication Officer Reynolds. Check that signal. Who’s sending it?”
Reynolds clicked a few buttons, and replied, “A starship not too far from here, Captain. Their engines ran out of power, and they’re looking for someone who can help repair it.”
“Is there anyone around?”
“Nobody close, besides us.”
Captain Patri smirked. “Good.” He looked around at the crew of the Ravenous: aside from Reynolds, a chameleon, there was also Youla, the chimpanzee who managed their weapons, Ira, a beetle with a knack for shield sustainment, Francin, a tiger who kept their engines running and their ship steered, and Keora, their newest member, a dolphin. Currently Keora managed their light speed warp, a job usually meant for Francin, but Patri had a feeling that the dolphin would be getting a promotion very soon. . .
“Chart a course for that ship,” the captain ordered his crew. He licked his lips. “We’re going to eat well tonight.”
“With pleasure, captain,” Francin said. Then they turned up the thrusters, and the crew was on their way.
A minute later, a small green ship showed up on their viewscreen. As they got closer to it, here was a crackling sound.
“Captain, they’re trying to contact us,” Reynolds said.
“Send them through,” Patri ordered. Reynolds did so, and a young human male appeared on their viewscreen.
“Did you get our distress signal?” the human asked.
“Yes,” Patri said. “Permission to dock?”
“Permission granted,” the man said. He disappeared from the viewscreen, and at the ship, a space-protected bridge formed at the base of the ship.
“Let’s go,” Captain Patri said. “Francin, take us in.”
And so the Ravenous docked next to the small green ship. Patri lead the crew across the bridge and aboard the green ship which, from the name painted on the side, was called the New Hope. /How cute/, Patri thought with a smirk. /They’ll certainly want some hope once we’re through with them./
They reached the end of the bridge and on the ship, entering some kind of large storage area. And that’s when the crew saw it.
Aboard the ship was rows and rows of humans—all the same man who had contacted them on the viewscreen, in fact. In front of them stood an older human, fidgeting with his hands and staring up at the Ravenous’s crew, who was double the size of the puny humans.
“Thank goodness you’re here!” the older man said, running up to the crew. Patri read a badge on his coat that read “Rivers”
“What’s the situation?” Patri asked. He pointed to the rows of men who, he now noticed, had blank, emotionless eyes. “And what is /that/?”
“The Republic’s new clone army.” Rivers covered his mouth. “Oh dear—I wasn’t supposed to tell you that. But I guess you would’ve found out soon enough.” He forced a smile. “They’ve been experimenting with human cells for quite a while now—this is the result. Not to worry, they’re in Pacifist Mode.”
“And what gets them to Attack Mode?” Patri asked.
“A special ray of light, that will be given when we get to our destination,” the human explained.
The captain smiled. “So they won’t attack us now?”
“Exactly.”
“Perfect.”
He licked his lips. Rivers frowned, and backed away. “Now, if you could help us fix the engine, I’m sure The Republic would reward you most generously—augh!”
Patri reached out and grabbed the human, his hand wrapping easily around the man’s waist. Rivers writhed and struggled, but the captain’s grip was strong. Patri chuckled. “We didn’t come to help. Definitely not help some Republic scum.
“We came to eat.”
Rivers looked up just as Patri’s maw opened, revealing flat teeth dripping with drool, and a wet, slimy tongue reaching for its prey. That was the last thing the human saw before he was thrust into darkness.
Patri moaned as he lapped up his prey, tasting the man’s head, neck, and shoulders. Humans had such a gamey taste, with a hint of sweetness that made the meat so desirable to him. Ah, he had missed this so much. Rivers squirmed underneath the huge tongue, trying to get out, but he was no match for Patri’s grip. The captain chuckled, and gave his first swallow.
He felt the meat enter his throat, bulging it out oh-so-nicely as the human traveled down. His stomach growled in anticipation for the coming food, and Patri smiled around the meat. He had to please his belly—so he swallowed again, sending the human’s belly into his throat and leaving just one bite left: the legs and feet, which danced on the rhino’s tongue.
Patri could hear muffled words coming from his throat—it was amazing the human could talk in there at all. But he didn’t regard to things his food said, so he gulped down the last bite, and sent Rivers plummeting into his stomach.
He felt the human land in his belly, bulging it out slightly. Struggles immediately began as stomach juices activated, but Patri ignored them as he turned to his crew.
“I count five rows of ten,” he said to them. “Fifty clones, five of us. So we each get ten. Understand?” He glanced over at Francin.
“Yes captain!” they all said.
Captain Patri smiled. “Good. Let’s eat!”
The next few minutes were beautifully chaotic as the crew began to enjoy the feast laid out before them. The clones were passive and calm, so they didn’t even put up a fight when swallowed (Patri actually didn’t mind struggling prey, but hey, he wouldn’t complain when they went down easy). The crew gulped down their food, eating peacefully.
Until. . .
“Francin, come on! You’ve eaten more than ten now!”
“So what?”
“That’s /twelve/ you have in there! You heard what the captain said, didn’t you?”
Patri looked up from his last human to see Francin and Reynolds arguing. Why did the tiger get in so many of these fights? This, the captain resolved, would be the last one.
He walked over to Francin, an enraged look in his eyes. Upon seeing him, Reynolds immediately stepped back, and Francin shrunk back. “C-Captain!” the tiger squeaked. “I’m sorry, I got a bit overzealous, I—”
“You get overzealous a lot during these feasts, Francin,” Patri said calmly. “In fact, this is your fourth time eating more than your fill, isn’t it?”
Francin gulped. “W-Well, I can’t say I’ve been keeping track—”
“Well /I/ have,” Patri said. “You know how we work aboard the Ravenous. We always keep our crew fed, but always fairly. And you’ve crossed the line.”
“So you’re kicking me out?” the tiger asked, frowning. Anger filled his face.
“Not quite,” Patri said. He licked his lips. “It looks like you’ve gotten yourself all fattened up for me. So I’ll indulge.”
The anger in Francin quickly turned to fear.
“No,” he whispered. “No, Captain, please, I’ll do better, I—”
“That’s enough,” the rhino ordered. He smiled. Before the tiger could move, Patri lunged forward and pinned him against the wall. “I’m quite hungry, you see.
“And I’m going to take my fill.”
