On the 28th of November we arrive back in Australia after having been in Europe for a little over 4 years.
Everyone says “Wow, you must be looking forward to going ‘home’”, but home is a concept and there is no longer anywhere in the world that I actually can call home. I’ve spent so much time wandering that I’ve lost touch with the concept of home. Also, I got rid of all my possessions when I left Australia, homely things like home decorations, memorabilia, furniture and all the things you use to make a place feel like home. Other things like friends, which are also related to the notion of home, are kind of hazy in my mind now, having either lost touch or lost connection over the last few years. Australia is a isolated place and when living there, even though you don't realise it, Europe and things that happen in Europe, are a long way away and hard to connect with.
Every other time in my life I’ve returned to Australia has been from a holiday and I’ve had a house, friends, car and a job to return to. Those things allow you to feel like you are returning home.
So I have mixed and confused emotions around going to Australia.
The whole basis of going there is for Aurora’s tour, which takes in all capital cities and goes until Feb/Mar 2024. It’s taken months of preparation and we’ll be obviously be engaged in that while we’re there.
The Life of a Travelling Model
Aurora has a workshop gig with a friend Tim Bradshaw in his new studio, and Tim generously offered me a time at night to do a presentation. I decided to present the idea behind our book, ‘The Life of a Travelling Model’. It will be a presentation involving (very) interesting snippets of stories and documentary style images I’ve shot over the last 5 years in my travels. Hopefully we can start to drum up some interest in the idea so that the crowd funding campaign we plan to have will kick-off as well as possible.
