Hey. Today finally arrived a new video card - RTX 2080. Already installed. The increase in render speed is huge, in 3 times, as in the new line of video cards of the 20th series, been installed video memory of gddr 6 type. Also, the frequency higher is almost 2 times more(7000Mhz), compared to my 1060(4000Mhz). In the near future I will do a render test :D I am happy :3

Awesome! But can you leave your 1060 hooked up as well and render using both cards at once?

shizzyzzzzzz

No, 1060 not have sli support. And about Nvidia cards you can use in sli mode only 2 similar cards, but from different brands, like 2080 msi and 2080 asus, but better using absolutely similar cards, to get 100% clear work of devices.

Ted Jones

Blender is different. SLI would slow it down, but as long as you use the same brand of card, Nvidia or AMD, Blender should use all available GPUs to render your image.

shizzyzzzzzz

Sli not slow down blender. It makes it faster, because the calculations occurs on two processors. For example, the calculation is now done by 1 block, since video card 1. When two video cards are running, there will be a calculation in 2 blocks. The speed of calculations on each video card will remain the same, but in fact the picture will be rendered on two video cards 2 times faster, because the active blocks of calculation are 2.

Ted Jones

Blender doesn't require SLI for 2 blocks. Just 2 cards. <a href="https://blenderartists.org/t/blender-cycles-and-gtx-sli-cards/653869" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://blenderartists.org/t/blender-cycles-and-gtx-sli-cards/653869</a>

lol. This is akin to delirium. Crutch if to speak easier. Also, I can not find a single video in which would say about the rendering on two different video cards. What it says about the fact that it is generally not relevant, to invent some kind of crap like this. In any case, I have plans for an old video card. In any case, I have plans for an old video card. About which I will not say anything yet)

Also, you did not take into account what it says about very different video cards. Titan and 2x 980. In any case Titan will be faster than 2 980 due too different generations of memory and processors. In any case, both the memory frequency and the frequency of the 980 video card processor are much lower than those of Titan. I do not take 2 ancient video cards to achieve high results. I take 2 newest cards. Therefore, what you say about blender slowing down in the SLI mode does not make sense at all.

Ted Jones

Im just saying whynot toss your 1060 back in and see if it renders even faster?

shizzyzzzzzz

If you read carefully, you should have understood that the blender will use the slower memory initially, but this makes no sense. It will not be faster, not even once. Sometimes it seems to me that you yourself do not really understand what you are talking about) or you understand, but a little wrong. Study in more detail the work of video cards in Cycles

Ted Jones

Not stacking vram is a disadvantage for sure, but the advantage you get is an almost linear speedup for rendering for every GPU you add to your system. Because as each device is treated as separate, they don’t have to communicate, etc. so they run at full speed all the time.

Ted Jones

More cards is always faster.
