Maisie stepped free of the bus, the vehicle echoing down the quiet road.

She was feeling good - things all seemed a little lighter. Which may be due to the fact that the girl had forgotten her bag at home. By the time she was at the bus stop earlier, she wouldn't have been able to make it back and get to her date on time. Phoneless, she was thus without any cash. Luckily her date didn't mind footing the bill.

The date itself had been fun. It was her first time meeting them, and she felt excited for a second engagement. What was more, next time Maisie would happily pay for the meal- and she'd have more than the means to do so.

The sum she'd be awarded at the end of this trial program was more than generous, after all.

Maisie had discovered the program's ad thanks to remaining in a few facebook groups from her college years. Moreso than usual though, this one was very hush-hush, requiring her to sign multiple and very binding NDAs. What was more, breaking the non-disclosure agreements meant a complete forfeit of any payment. Maisie needed the cash more than she was ready to admit.

Program participants had to take a new drug over the course of three weeks. The drug in question had shocked the young woman - it was an experiment around actually changing the size of living things! It had apparently gone through years of testing and was finally safe for human trials. Over the three weeks, the drug would trigger between the times of 5pm and 10pm, and any reduction would wear off after a period of four to six hours. Luckily, she was assured there was no chance she'd end up the size of a bug, and the shrinking in question each night would be between five to fifty percent of someone's size.

Maisie had had a very strict requirement around her date being a lunch date for a reason.

Of course, she hadn't whispered a word of this to anyone. What was more, she figured she was already short - what would be the harm in spending time at night a little shorter?

The young woman had taken the first dose yesterday, with her first shift to take place this evening. It wasn't even two yet. Plenty of time.

And yet...

The woman took a few steps and quickly, quietly... a strange sensation began to boil inside her. 

Was it something she ate?

Yeah, that had to be it...
