Sophie could have kept sleeping.
In fact, to ask her - she should have been allowed to sleep as long as she wanted, given the day she had had. Yet that kind of clarity was not afforded her as she was roused from rest by a... noise.
An irritating noise. Firm. Consistent. Loud.
The lithe redhead reluctantly peeled herself from her pillow, sitting up to see morning light having already found its way into her room. That noise again...
Banging? No. Knocking! It was knocking... on a door?
God, she was so tired still.
Who the hell would be knocking on her door on... whatever day it was of all days! She glared at her closed bedroom door for half a moment, hoping her steely gaze could will the sound away
The knocking continued, much to Sophie's dismay, and with a groan she withdrew from the warm embrace of her bed and grabbed a baggy shirt from her closet. It collapsed over her frame like a long dress.
So roomy...
The knocking continued, more insistent, which spurred the temper of the redhead.
"I'm coming! For fuck's sake..." She cursed beneath her breath, her bare feet sounding through the house as she hurried to meet the interloper of her rest.
As she approached the sound, Sophie was lifting from the daze of her barely conscious mind. The events of yesterday slowly coming into clarity once again, which came with hints of anxiety.
The knocking continued. God, how could she have been so careless to leave the device behind like that? It was lucky those two women had stumbled upon it in the way they did.
The knocking was louder again.
"I'm coming!"
Oh yeah. Those two! Maisie and Jenna. Her hand clasped the doorknob, and she almost laughed at absent-mindedness- she had really needed the sleep. She'd check on Maisie and Sophie after she got rid of whoever was at her door.
The door handle turned. It was heavier than she remembered, in fact, this shirt was roomier than she remembered...
Oh! Sophie's quietly enjoyed bliss from last night finally came to her just as the light from outside rushed in.
She had shrunk herself!
Wait...
She stared ahead, expecting to look down at whoever it was as she often did, but instead her eyes rose higher, and higher to lock with a familiar face.
She had shrunk herself...
Standing before Sophie was Nathalie! She was... so tall.
The redhead was stiff and quiet as she stared up at her colleague.
It was a fraction of a moment in time, but it felt like an age as Sophie looked up at her.
Nathalie's brow furrowed. She knew Sophie had a niece, but she could have sworn she was much younger than this...
"Oh. Um. Hey there. Is uh... Sophie... home?" The dark-haired woman's face flickered almost imperceptibly. The shorter woman saw it though.
It was the faintest hint of dawning realization and in the face of that, Sophie stood speechless.
