We are barreling into the holiday season. There's a lot I like about the upcoming 6-8 weeks, but it's also a bit exhausting and hahahaha family can be a lot, right?

I stock up on books for the season, not just because I sometimes have more time to read--cozy nights start sooner--but because it's good to take a mental break from all of this. *waves at the season*

So I thought I'd throw out some fun and festive books for your TBR.

Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore (Adult, Fiction). It's been awhile since I read this one, but I remember it being funny. You know, if zombie santas are your thing. This is part of his Pine Cove books, but can probably be read as a standalone.

The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett (Adult) If you wanted a weird fantasy take on the holidays where Santas is actually an anthropomorphic hog and Death has to take his place anyway, this book is for you. Can be read as a standalone. They also made this one into a two part movie and its awesome.

The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden--(Adult, Fantasy) heavy winter vibes with Russian folklore. Arden's writing is very immersive and a delight to the senses. You heard me, a delight to the senses!

Greenglass House by Kate Milford--(Middle grade) this one is a fun winter book with lots of puzzles and interesting characters.

In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren--(Adult, romance) so this one isn't entirely fantasy. It just has one fantastical element. Namely, the main character is living the holidays over and over until she gets them right. I love Christina Lauren's books, but I'm also friends with them, so know that I'm horribly biased.

A Lot Like Christmas by Connie Willis--(Adult, fantasy/sci-fi) this is a collection of all of Willis's holiday novellas and stories. Willis was sort of the queen of gentle satire, and this collection pretty because even if someone is a big reader, they might have missed this one.

If you're a romance reader, Jackie Lau's Holiday with the Wongs series covers pretty much all of the holidays and are both comedic and low angst. There's also Amor, Actually, which is a collection of romances by a bunch of different writers. Talia Hibbert also has Wrapped in You and if you haven't read her stuff yet, she's very, very funny.

I haven't read Winterfair Gifts yet, by Bujold, but I like her stuff and the Vorkosigan saga, so I'll need to check this one out.

Oh, and Kelley Armstrong has some holiday novellas in her Stitch in Time series, which has light time travel/ghosty elements.

I originally was hoping to have more made up holidays and hopefully more Thanksgiving stuff on this list, but my pudding-brain isn't coughing anything up. Which means as usual I'd love it if you posted any books that I missed in the comments.

Happy reading!
