Hey everyone, in this video, I'll walk you through the process of synchronizing Bitwig Studio with a video file. Bitwig Studio doesn't have a built-in video track, but I'm going to show you how to use Touch Designer to make this happen. Let's get started!

  1. First, make sure your controller settings in Bitwig Studio are set to "Touch Designer" with the controller script enabled.
  2. Touch Designer communicates with Bitwig Studio through OSC, so ensure your UDP server is running for this synchronization to work.
  3. Now, in Touch Designer, drag in a Bitwig main node from the left sidebar. This node establishes a connection between Touch Designer and Bitwig Studio.
  4. You'll also need to add a Bitwig song object to access project parameters, specifically "transport position seconds," which will help us sync the video.
  5. Set the transport position in seconds in Touch Designer to match the position in Bitwig Studio. This will allow precise syncing of the video.
  6. Import your video file into Touch Designer by dragging it onto the canvas. Any video format will work, but higher frame rates are recommended for better precision.
  7. Change the play mode to "Specify Index" and switch the unit to seconds. Now, you can specify the video's position in seconds, matching it with Bitwig's timeline.
  8. Connect Bitwig's output to the video file using a select node in Touch Designer. Filter it down to "transport/position seconds."
  9. Switch to "Viewer Active Mode" and connect the value to the video's index. This ensures that the video stays synchronized with Bitwig's timeline.
  10. Now, when you move through your project in Bitwig Studio, you'll see the video playing back exactly in sync with your music. It's incredibly responsive and precise.
  11. To display the video, you can use a "New TOP" and "Out" node in Touch Designer. This way, you can have the video on a separate screen or use a "Always on Top" application to keep it in focus.
  12. Touch Designer's versatility allows you to add various video effects and modulations to enhance your visuals. Check out my other videos for more on that.
  13. The best part is, this method works with the free version of Touch Designer, which is great news for budget-conscious creators.
  14. To finalize your project, export the audio from Bitwig and combine it with your synchronized video in a video editor like Da Vinci Resolve.

It´s a big missing feature for some people and for me. How to synchronize Video files with Bitwig project. Here is a cool and free way of doing it with @TouchDesignerOfficial and the new TDBitwig extension. Can’t you take the Bitwig audio in TD and then export the video with that audio track?

polarity_music

yes, it should be possible with the "moviefileout" TOP node. but the free version of TD supports only 1280x720 and you cant offline bounce the track. so you have to use playback in realtime while dumping data into a file. so if you dont do weird tricks with the video in TD its probably faster to offline bounce in bitwig and combine audio and video in ffmpeg or some random video editor.
