Hey everyone! In today's video, we dove deep into Bitwig Studio 5.1 to explore the latest addition: the Bite oscillator. This isn't your everyday oscillator; it's packed with features like Exponential FM, hard sync, pulse width modulation, and ring modulation from dual oscillator feedback. The possibilities for sound manipulation are truly endless.
Key Moments:
- Basic Overview: Bite has two oscillators and two knobs, A and B, for volume or gain control. You can play around with each oscillator individually or mix them for more complex sounds.
- Pulse Width Modulation: Turning up the Pulse Width knob lets you modulate the pulse width of the first oscillator with the second one, offering unique tonal outcomes.
- Modulator Inputs: You're not limited to just using the second oscillator for pulse width modulation. You can also attach other modulators to control the pulse width differently.
- Pitch Offset: The second oscillator has an option for pitch offset, allowing you to deviate slightly from the original pitch to introduce more complexities in your sound.
- Exponential FM: Unlike linear FM or phase modulation you might be used to, Bite uses exponential FM, which is great for generating overtones and is perfect for percussion and atonal sounds.
- Ring Modulation and Mixing: The two mix knobs let you control the balance between the two oscillators and even ring modulate them for more sonic variations.
- Hard Sync: This feature resets the phase of the second oscillator based on the cycle of the first, offering better pitch control and less tonal chaos.
- Additional Features: I briefly touched upon Phase Modulation and using Bite in conjunction with the Sweep feature for creating dynamic basslines. Perfect for genres like drum and bass or dubstep.
That's a quick rundown of Bite in Bitwig Studio 5.1. Expect more detailed tutorials on this oscillator in future videos, where I'll dive into its application for different types of sounds, like pads and basses.
