The way these writers carefully wrote Adachi's character development is so good. That said, Tsuge was so hilarious this episode. The way he communicates with Minato 😄😄😄😄😄. Last week he shouted at Minato saying he would never look down on him. This week he runs so weird and falls right on his knees. It is hilarious, but somehow it works for Minato hahahaha. Good for you Tsuge! 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄 And, like you, Jeevan, I was laughing and crying at the same time. This series is just getting better and better. 😅

I agree, this is a very strong script and it’s a first rate production. The acting is wonderful; I love how Adachi seems to be getting jumpier the closer he gets to consummation. And I’m going to stick up for Rokkaku, the Great Interrupter. He’s an essential character, written to annoy us, but the actor brings so much electricity to his portrayal, we really can’t dislike him. He brings a kind of forced joy to the character, tinged with pathos. It’s a layered performance and a very good one.

Part of the magic of this series is because it’s been color scrubbed. The blue levels have been lowered so that overall the scenes are warm in tone. When blue shows up in a frame, it’s associated with Adachi or Kurosawa (or both) and it represents both Magic and love. Kurosawa’s fantasies have a blue tint, though not as much as the title sequence. Note that when there’s a spot or two of blue in the office scenes, they’re positioned in context to the dialog. Sometimes, e.g., the only blue you’ll see will be between the two characters when they’re in conversation. Other times spots of blue will surround Adachi. They’re blue file folders and posters and such, scattered around the office so that the characters can be positioned relative to the blue. Not always, but usually. It extends to wardrobe. Adachi’s ties usually contain blue, sometimes the only blue in a scene. And in episode 1, Kurasawa’s suit appears to be very dark, almost black. Except at the end when he’s urging Adachi toward a taxi. In that frame, a streetlight reveals that Kurasawa’s suit is a vivid blue. In this episode, when Minato puts his hand over Tsuge’s mouth, I was reminded of a similar scene in the French movie Amelie. That film’s color was heavily modified to saturated greens and reds; when there are spots of blue, it’s significant. The photo booths are blue for example. The color scrubbing Cherry Magic is not as extreme in Cherry Magic, but it’s there. And, as in Amelie, it adds to the feeling of us seeing the action in an idealized, romanticized place. The shows title card gives it away. There’s a rainbow of graphic on it, with the blue at the top. In nature, blue is at the bottom of a rainbow. So maybe not for Jeevan, whose time is limited, but for others here who will watch the series multiple times, keep a lookout for blues.

Correction to a sentence about six lines above the bottom. It should read: The color scrubbing in Cherry Magic is not as extreme as it is in Amelie.

Wow, I didn’t notice about the color, but it really makes sense.

For your info, Cherry Magic is going to release three special spin-off episodes. But I am not sure if anyone would be able to do the sub for these special episodes. Anyway, you could watch the trailer video with English sub with this link. You could also consider if you want to do some reaction with the trailer video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pY__n9h-q0&ab_channel=HanaeMiyuki

And by the way, about the story for the special episode, for the Valentine Day culture in Japan, it is a day where girls give chocolate to people. There are two meanings for the chocolate. One is called "giri chocolate" where girl gives to give to guy co-workers or friends to show appreciation. The other one is called "honmei chocolate" where girl gives to someone special whom she has romantic feeling for, and this is also a good chance for girls to confess their feeling to someone. In the past, it was only girls who giving the chocolates in Valentine Day, but in recent years, it is also getting more common for guys to also giving chocolate.

There are other errors too. For some reason on my iPad I can’t access more than the first five lines of text. As an editor, this driving me nuts! Maybe I’ll try on my laptop....
