I absolutely agree with you that the universal "I don't like men, I only like XX" as a pretense that they are straight, at the very least they are somewhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. And that and the acceptance of hazing as OK were the two things that turned me off SOTUS. Also, I agree that dumb as a plot device is really a cheap copout by the writers. Sadly, in one instance, though, I think you are wrong about the audience. These BLs are all mostly made for straight girls as a means to sell cosmetics and stuff. They are the major audience for M/M romance by volume and the vast majority of the fan club members for all of these shows. They swoon over the masculine "tops" and want to fantasize that because they are really "straight" they could fall in love with them as girls.

Yeah I think so but that would be relevant maybe 5 years ago…in recent times we can’t say the major viewers are just girls only…a major portion of them are lgbtq+ tooo so I guess they should change their perspective over time

I certainly hope that's true. I write M/M historicals and fantasy romance stories in the U.S. and the majority of those are still written by straight women for straight women and there are comparatively few men writing them, so the gay male experience is often portrayed quite skewed. Though a lot of women writers are quite careful and do a good job, too many others stumble into stereotypes or their own fantasies.. I think the same is the case for BL novels globally. I think Lovely Writer tackled a few of those issues quite well in the first few episodes before it went a bit strange. I think more and more LGBTQ+ people are discovering these things and responding to them and I think we need to demand better, as you suggested, independent of who the majority of the sponsor-purchasing audience is. They certainly should not be insulting to us.
