Hey all!

I'll get right to it: I'm sick, I've been sick ever since I caught covid, and my writing pace has tanked massively. I've managed to keep my quality up, but my quantity is suffering quite a bit, and I've been burning backlog to stay on top of it.

My backlog's officially redlining right now. It's too small, and I'm taking drastic measures to not end up writing against the deadline, which will MURDER quality super duper hard.

I'm dropping to two chapters a week in October. I'm also changing up how I work a bit, and I should be able to hopefully completely reanimate my backlog to where it belongs. At which point, in November, I'll be returning to the usually-scheduled 3 chapters/week.

My goal here is to maximize my backlog, which will help my quality as I'm able to give each chapter the needed attention over the weeks it percolates.

Next week will have THREE CHAPTERS still. It's the last week of September by my logic. 7th-11th is admin week AKA Selkie trying to get better, then the next three weeks are 2 chapters each instead of three.

Basically, I'm 'only' missing three chapters. I feel terrible over it though, I'm so sorry.

I'm really sorry, I didn't want to come to this, but it's the best of a bad lot.

Poll to decide which two days a week I'm posting.

Cheers!

Selkie

Glad you are giving yourself more time

Pexezz

Take care mate, hope you get well soon

Tyderion

make sure you get well, that's the most important

Jake Conway

Hope you feel better soon!

ZephanyZephZeph

Covid is known for being disabling, I hope you're able to balance your efforts and body readily!

Fulgurata

Feel better!

Necrotyr

Oh god, has the 'first' bullshit come to Patreon too?..

Callum Davis

Please take whatever time you need to so that you can recover, we would all much prefer a longer wait for a higher quality story not to mention your health should come first

Necrotyr

Hope you get better Selkie!

Cameron Kispert

I vote no days per week until recovery. You seem to have missed that option in the polls.

Markus

Glad that you are respecting your health. I suggest you skip mondays chapter. Then you don´t need to write on the weekends.

TeaGeek

Take the time you need - reduced output is better than reduced quality or burnout. I know folks hate seeing authors go on hiatus, but it can be important for health if it comes to that.

Shukketsu

Well, what can I say other than, rest well, rest plenty and may the Elaine have mercy on your mortal coil

TjStorm

Motherlover, i can’t believe you’re back on this. Stop bloody apologising for being human. If you’re feeling ill, down, behind, whatever, take a pissing break. Just post updates on how you’re doing, that you’re still alive, and start taking better care of yourself. Don’t feel guilty. You can’t take care of us, your readers, if you’re face down dead in a ditch, from a stressed induced aneurysm. Do what you need to do, we will still be here.

Simon Hoerder

Hope you‘ll recover soon! But please take your time for a full recovery.

Get better

SelkieMyth

lol, I'm constantly writing. The only change is what days I select when I'm scheduling

James Skinner

Sorry to hear that, hope you're feeling well again soon.

M0och

Hope you get better soon! Super happy you are prioritizing your health before anything else! Far too many Authors push themselves too far and burn out. Glad to see you know when health needs to be a priority

Nait02

Get well soon! Take all the time you need.

Bubbles The Amoeba

Your health matters more than our reading. Take as much time as you need.

Kennyevilmonkey

As someone who strugles with maintaining a backlog, I know the pain. Do what you need to do, quality will always be more import than quantity.

Tonberry

Ok so if I have to pick 2 of the 3 then I pick Monday and Friday because they’re furthest apart. But honestly I’m of the opinion that you need to take whatever time you need to recover.

David Clough

Take care of yourself. You got 9ne shot at your life long health.

Arrogantfitz

Don't post here much, but I do greatly appreciate you're dedication to quality and consistency. I greatly enjoy your story and am more than happy to wait while you set yourself to rights. I wish you a swift and pleasant recovery.

Rafnyd

Honestly if you're struggling I'd prefer you to drop to one chapter a week. Self care is SUPER important and we want you to feel better.

conkerer

Just write a chapter a week of your thoughts and meditations and worries. I am subscribed to you, not to your stories. Doodle something in Microsoft paint and post it. Do a extra bad dramatic reading of your favorite passage. Share your playlist for writing or relaxing. Share your brownie recipe. Write a rant on recent politics. I would love to know you more as an author and person even if I don't get one more chapter about Elaine.

Ronny Cook

Take your time and concentrate on quality. Take time off altogether if you need it. We would all rather you focus on your health. Your Patreon is already great value; having it drop for a while to merely good value is not much of a sacrifice - and I for one would be fine with you taking a proper break to recover.

Oblivious Sage

If you're only doing 2 updates a week, why not Tues/Thurs?

StuBee3

Sorry you aren’t feeling well. I’ve been there and it sucks. Hang in there, we’re rooting for you!

Joshua

None chapters until health improves!

Clinton Walsh

No chapters is fine until you’re healed. I can’t speak for anyone else but I won’t be going anywhere regardless.

Aclys

What the others are saying, your health absolutely comes first and having to deal with covid is all the justification anyone should need to take their time to focus on staying alive and healthy. So you take the time needed, slow down the release rate as needed. Absolutely noone here should be upset at you for this, including yourself so make sure your boss knows to give himself the time off required!

Eleeyah

Reduce to one a week if you need to. It's not the end of the world lmao.

Tabitha Rollins

Get well soon, far more important than the story.

C Gillan

Don't worry about it make any changes you need. Look after yourself first we can all wait if needed

MrGaujail

get your paid sick leave (even if you simply reduced your work load and didn't leave), you deserve it

MadKingMidas

Hang on lemme put this on the scale. (A healthy author who can keep writing my favorite book) ⚖ (My favorite book). Yeah that's a massive lean to the left. Take care of yourself! No chapters until you feel better is just fine!

Kai Elanzo

I think Monday, Friday would be best. You get 3 days between Mon/Fri, and 2 days between Fri/Mon. Your health is the main issue right now.
