hey alex the haikyuu movie is coming out on crunchyroll on halloween! i think it might actually already be streaming in korea on netflix though? anyways just letting you know :)

Dutchy

its surprising how much im enjoying the dub (so far at least), the delivery is super natural

Thanks! I'm not seeing it on Netflix here but maybe it's giving me info based on previous VPN usage. I'll check again later and if not Crunchy :)

I think it's a lot of fun 😁 I've had the experience a few times where the dub added an extra comedic element for me. FLCL is a good example of that (I'm pretty sure turbo granny is voiced by the main character of that show)

okay whoops, turns out it's on netflix hong kong not korea, sorry. but it should be on crunchyroll within the next 24 hours anyways so just do what's most convenient for you lol

first thing I did when I saw the news was hop on here to make sure someone brought this up. Saw it in theatres, very excited to see your reaction

tanasia

“what is turbo grannies backstory?” great episode to ask!

tanasia

idk if you were joking or not but connie’s mom turned back to normal when titan powers were erased! connie said it himself when he came out of his limbo talk with eren

Your tangent about western protagonist early of the videos made me laugh so much. I have feeling but don't quote me on this, I just have a feeling you have something against that. :v

Now we know that a big part of turbo granny’s backstory revolves around her consoling the spirits of girls who were sexually abused, then murdered. So I can now bring up two theories that I can’t take credit for, but like enough to accept as true. 1. She took Ken’s weenie because he was a guy wandering around the tunnel where multiple girls suffered a horrible fate. In Turbo Granny’s eyes, he’s for sure a sexual deviant up to no good. So she tries to lure him in with promises of teat suckling then takes his weenie so he can’t hurt any girls with it. 2. Turbo Granny jumped through the phone only when the aliens were about to have their way with Momo. Knowing that she’s sympathetic to girls in that position, this makes perfect sense. Just liked how much that simple bit of backstory changes how you interpret her actions. It’s still wild, but at least it logically tracks.

On a serious note, I only started watching anime again when Full Metal Alchemist got voted in, followed by MHA. I'm really glad it happened that way because I think the underlying spirit of it means so much more to me now than it did, especially in contrast to what I feel is the message or underlying "dark" atmosphere of the media I was getting used to.

agoodwintv

Makes sense! The simplified way I was thinking about it was revenge. But the phone thing hadn't occurred to me, that's cool

Can you try an episode of OPM in dub? It’s one of the few dubs I’m a huge fan of the voices have so much more character than the Japanese VA’s

RichiPete

good shout, didn't know when it was finally gonna be available

Turbo Granny in dub is also Rita Repulsa from power rangers

agoodwintv

She has a crazy stacked resume. Most notably for me aside from the above she's also Laharl from Disgaea and the arcade kid social link from Persona 5. And has minor credits in a lot of things I've watched here, Demon Slayer, HxH, even Avatar

I really like how real these characters feel, especially that ending part, I think we all have an experience like that, you meet people solely because of overlapping interests/goals and only when you are nearing that goal or just achieved it you take a step back and realize you really enjoyed these people company more that just working towards a goal. And it’s really hard in the moment to realize that awkwardness and be aware enough to take that first step forward and bridge that gap if you wanna

Chris Sharpe

turbo granny is a protector of girls and while there is likely an logical explanation for why TG attacked momo, it created a funny implication that she just REALLY doesn’t like momo specifically and is just a generational hater.

Chris Sharpe

it’s interesting, because obviously it’s common for a female and male characters to be the brains and brawn respectively, but it kinda feels like it was double reversed here. Momo is loud and boisterous and seems like she would be a close range fighter (and against the aliens she shows powerful physical attacks) but is INSANELY clever and cool under pressure during battles. Okarun is a nerd (and is certainly not dumb), but he isn’t actually shown to be particularly brainy and he constantly relies on his tenacity and bravery in these fights instead (which makes sense since not all nerds and social outcasts are super smart). they’re basically two sides of Deku
