Peak zero day!!!

Actually, the cracks that appeared when he used Shamac *again*, when he was supposed to go easy on his gate and not use magic, was supposed to show that he finally pushed it over it's edge — His Gate, which he uses to cast magic on his own (unlike e.g. with spirits like Emilia or Julius), is done for now. Basically utterly broken and unusable.

Great reaction, i love this episode so much and despite me having seen this many times i didnt expect to tear up to Garfiel talking about his mother passing away, that really got me today for some reason xD Oh btw when Subaru used "Shamac" on garfiel his portal actually broke, hence the mirror breaking effect happening there. Sad he doesnt have his portal anymore but was necesary in order for "Unseen hand" to take over and be a usable power. (Forgive me if that is explained in the next episodes but i dont think it is so i wanted to clear that up) Great reaction cant wait for you to get to S3 its really good. Also btw just a heads up, you didnt include season 2 episode 12 on the rezero collection. This is the second time!! Very slothful man, Betelguse would be proud of you. jk jk im only joking xD

So, just in case it isn't clear, Garfiel was making fun of Subaru for all the messages inside the sanctuary that he made for Emilia. Subaru wasn't expecting other people to see those messages, but then Garfiel actually took up the trial. Separately: it's very interesting how consistently Alex sees right through the only partial resolution. Like, characters make progress, and they start to face things, but they haven't fully gotten to the root of their problems. It's a little intimidating, honestly. It makes me wonder if you see through people's much more complex fronts in real life.

Peak: Zero time. This episode is really the Garfiel episode. He’s actually one of my fav characters in the grand scope of this whole story, and I’d say this is his really starting point. I find a lot of my younger self in him, as a really emotionally unstable young teen. I love, love, love how Emilia and Subaru confront him. As we learn in this ep, Garf is a kid. Like an actual kid. He’s really not in full control of himself and isn’t even really aware of what he wants. You’ll notice in the past loops, and in this one, that Garf is actually pretty easy to get along with once you’ve broken through in some key way. And Subaru’s new ability gets introduced! Invisible providence. After Petelgeuse was killed, his witch factor transferred to Subaru. Now we know what that entails. Also Patrasche being the goat again. And Ram being super nice. Can’t say I hate it. I love Garfs backstory. The novels directly say it, but the show moreso does visually, Garf did the trial when he was a little boy. As a kid, experiencing something that emotionally charged was absolutely devastating, and so as “Frederica” (actually just Garf, since the trial is built on your own memories) says, he tries to physically erase his mothers kiss as a trauma response. He’s basically been sitting in absolute terror of this trial for years now, not cause he can’t do it, but because he doesn’t wanna face that again. As another aside, right before Subaru uses the puck crystal to drain Garfs mana and break his transformation, this is shown visually, but something pretty dangerous happened this ep. When Subaru uses shamac, we get the visual of his gate cracking. It is severely damaged now, as Felix said not to use it for a few months at least. Just something to keep in mind. And now Emilia is taking on the trial. And we learned why Subaru broke his promise. It’s honestly such a Subaru thing to do. Stay up all night writing a bunch of motivational messages and silly drawings to help motivate Emilia the next day. Was it wise? No. But it’s definitely him. This is also more explicit in the novels, but you seemed to pick it up, as some people get confused when they watch it, Emilia calling herself “the frozen witch” is a way of reclaiming that title for herself. I think that’s pretty beautiful, especially after the OVA. Great thoughts as always, extremely hyped for the next ones.

I actually didnt know that until just recently when my brother pointed it out. I assumed they were talking about the kiss. Thought he came in saw them then backed out and waited for them to get out. In hindsight that wouldnt have made much sense but thats jus wat i thought till recently lol.

Baddy

Because many think they were talking about their kiss — What Garf saw was the huge loveletter in the graveyard. Hence Subaru saying he didn't plan with him comming in (to do the trial). He didn't really know what was up with Garf till then afterall.

Thank you, I honestly had no idea and was thinking something way worse for no reason lol

Baddy

I love this episode so ridiculously much! The previous one too, but this one, if I had to choose on the spot, I'd say is my favorite of the season, maybe the whole show so far. Also, a detail I really like — Emilia immitated Subarus pose, the one he does when introducing himself (e.g. in episode 1 season 1), at the end there

Plasma Lemon

No clue if anyone has told you yet, since you watch MHA in English dub you might not know, but Garfiel has the same VA as Bakugo, it's so amazingly fitting

Baddy

Also, Garf maybe didn't rmember much, if anything, from when that event actually happened, but what the trial Frederica rather meant was him remembering stuff from the first time he took the trial. (I just remembered this one — I knew I was forgetting one comment I wanted to write! xp)

Baddy

Ah, that was also why he thanked his gate for oulling through one final time btw.

I have to agree. I will never not think of Beauty and the Beast with that OST.
