Will there be Vinland today too, or tomorrow?

Favorite succession character? (Please say Uncle Ewan)

Ura Meshi

While Atsumu's setting philosophy initially seemed to be similar to the young dictator Kageyama, this flashback shows that it's actually very different. Because while young Kageyama selfishely tossed and expected his teammates to keep up with whatever he wanted to do without taking them into account, Atsumu takes everything into account : his immense skill of course (which does allow him to be so confident, demanding and arrogant, hence the "Goody two shoes" comment), but also his teammates’ needs and attributes. And only if they fail after that does he loose his cool and scold them, because from his perspective, his extreme care and diligence isn't being rewarded. Unlike young Kageyama, Atsumu is not mentally affected by the hatred of his teammates and doesn’t care about it, because from his perspective, his demanding and harsh attitude towards his spikers is totally natural and justified. Atsumu is petty and immature when things don't go his way but that that doesn't mean that he expects things to fall into his lap, it's just that he can't stand the injustice of hard work not being rewarded : and that’s really what his setting philosophy comes down to. And there's a very neat parallel with Oikawa here too, the two setters are sort of kindred spirits in that they value hard work and that they have that insatiable volleyball hunger, which is also shared by the likes of Hinata and Kageyama : pure love and passion for the sport that makes them want to stay on the court. The fact that Atsumu’s brother, Osamu, didn’t have that hunger is sad but thematically beautiful : in the twins’ backstory it was said that it was Osamu who was the better and more skilled player early on. However, while it is possible that Atsumu was born a volleyball “genius” (like Kageyama), it was largely thanks to his monstruous fighting spirit and hard work (which is in part fueled by the competition with his brother) that he was able to refine his skills and become what he is today : the best highschool setter in Japan.

So many great characters to choose from. But I think I'd have to go with the great Logan Roy himself

Your cat's timing made me laugh, it was perfect - showing up just as Nekoma (Kuroo and Kenma) were shown on screen. :)

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Agreed. Pretty much every character is perfectly written in Succession but Logan Roy is the king. Man I would've killed for Goodwin Succession reactions... I just finished the show a couple weeks ago, waited for it to end to watch the entire thing for the first time. Easily my favorite live action tv series of all time.

I bet Tsuki will send the miya twins a brick of blood next ep.

I see Nishinoya’s success comes from being the grandson of Danny Devito. On a serious note, in regards to Atsumu, is that I think what separates him from just being a king of the court is what he puts in. Both Atsumu and middle school Kageyama had high expectations of their teammates and berated them if they did bad. But while Kageyama basically metaphorically threw a stick into the distance and said “go catch it”, Atsumu says to his teammates “I will put myself on the line to give you the best possible sets, so you’d better put yourself on the line, or else”. I think that this A, shows a level of hard work and respect for his teammates to go that far. B, gives them the freedom to try their best on their own terms as opposed to measuring their success based on his own expectations. And C, gives them a realistic chance to do well. This isn’t to say that Atsumu is completely right, or that Kageyama should emulate him. Kageyama has evolved, but is not the same as Atsumu, still setting goals for his teammates to achieve in order for them to succeed.

I love how the "hero" this episode can be Atsumu and Nishinoya who are brilliant star players and heroes in their own right. But it can also be Osamu and Kinnoshita who were/are behind Atsumu's and Nishinoya's growth by pushing them forward and helping them practice to better their skills. Osamu was the competition Atsumu needed to be who he is today and Kinnoshita's serves and practices with Nishinoya helped him overcome his fear of the overhead receive and hone his receiving skills. You can be a hero without being the center of attention, by the sidelines helping be a part of someone else's success. It reminded me of all the times you said how being a part of other people's success/milestones in life brought you so much joy!

I didn’t see this when I made my comment. You said it way more beautifully and throughly than I ever could. Also mentioned some things I didn’t think of.

1:36 A few episodes ago, Goodwin mentioned being surprised that Inarizaki had customized cheers for every player, but some of them are super formulaic. They don't subtitle it, but in the background at that point, you can hear the Karasuno cheer squad do that same customized cheer for Asahi, so we have those cheers, too. ;) Goodwin's [friend's] speech about taking the hit for others having only an upside if you trust yourself to absorb the hit is surprisingly inspiring. It's something I simultaneously try to live by and also something that gets me in trouble sometimes when I bite off more than I can chew. At 13:35, the reference to Giba, the Brazilian volleyball legend of the early 2000s, was really nostalgic for me personally. When I first moved to Japan in 2007, he was always the first person anyone in volleyball would mention. :)

Sorry in advance for putting this on the Haikyuu video but... Jujutsu Kaisen is back TODAY! I hope Goodwin is aware so we can get his reaction ASAP, but its okay we will get it eventually, I can wait. (I can't)

Emman Reed

Awesome reaction and another late night of enjoying Mr.Goodwin reactions! Also I wanted to mention that the handsome man on the sidelines giving some commentary is the supervisor/coach from the U19 Japan team. Really excited for more :)) PS excited for Vinland as well. (HunterXHunter and JJK too!)

Anyone who moved to Japan recently will probably have a similar experience with Ohtani someday
