I absolutely love this episode, but I understand entirely why you feel the way you do about it, as I felt similarly when I saw it the first time. But having watched the series many times, I approach it differently - I know Rygel is being happily fed the native delicacy he hoped to obtain on the commerce planet, for example. The episode does a really good job of disguising the premise - you quickly put away the "is this really Earth?" questions because so much time is dedicated to John being challenged to prove himself to the "Earthlings." But there are still those odd moments, like the random tech person he recognized who was working on his module. They never explicitly detail how the crew get back to the ship- more than a few episodes end that way. Here I presume that D'Argo, Rygel, and Aeryn simply returned to the transport pod, and John flew back to Moya in his module - which hadn't actually been disassembled, the aliens simply created a fake like they did the Rygel corpse. Though personally I think I'd have enjoyed watching John explain the whole thing to Aeryn, D'Argo, Zahn and Chiana back on Moya. I believe Aeryn's lines can be "translated" by playing them backwards;

Just to reassure Angela, whatever happened between John and Aeryn in this episode actually happened: that was her the whole time, and the proof is her reaction when "John's Dad" thanked her by name and she turned around looking baffled, as though he had understood everything she just said... because, of course he did. That's not to say that their dynamic will have changed at all -- Aeryn has shown a soldier's capacity to compartmentalize -- but it still happened. Stay tuned!

I LOVE this episode. I was looking forward to your reaction. I loved your confusion because I was just the same 30 years ago. I love this show and I bet this episode will impact you if only in the background of your mind going forward. Man I just love this one. It was so unexpected, and if there's one thing to learn about this show is to expect the unexpected.

I was not emotionally prepared for the phrase “Farscape edging”! lol I enjoyed this one but it was very much a filler episode/ Outer limits wannabe episode. I remember the sense of horror seeing Rigel on the autopsy table, both horrific and anticlimactic which weirdly made me feel worse
