Adorable underrated movie .

indaeo

Not enough people know about or watch this movie. I'm so happy that you're reacting to it!

James Wallis

Must be just america this missed out on, cause im pretty sure 99% of the UK has seen it! But yes an absolutely amazing film, stacked cast and got a bit of everything

The Girl Who Was Erased

Yes, such a criminally underrated movie! It has the perfect recipe of an engaging plot, a stellar cast, amazing humorous moments, and not the same overdone love story. If you like Neil Gaiman I hope one day you'll react to Good Omens, which is a book that he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett so it's even more bonkers (and in the TV series adaptation it features David Tennant consistently wearing sexy sunglasses if it may help in convincing you to watch it 😏😂)

Lee Aguera

I saw in theaters back in the day here in the States, but I remember the theater being all but empty. But everyone I've shown this movie to has been "Oh damn, that's pretty good, why have I not heard of it before?" I dont think they did a good job advertising in the States

Hi, I am Hi.

I actually recently watched this one. I really liked it, the last 30 minutes was a bit too silly for my taste, but great overall. The thing that bugged me though, was the lack of surprised or shocked from Tristan when learning about this world. "Oh you are the star? You are coming with me" 😂😂 Looking forward to seeing your reaction.

Sone

Yup this is a good one definitely underrated. However I'm so glad you didn't know about it because it was truly a joy to watch your reaction. Excellent surprised as well when I got notification from Patreon .

What's this? Reacting to one of my favourite movies from when I was younger? What a pleasant surprise. I guess this calls for some... Notes from a Stardust fan: 1) The amount of times you went 'Oh! I recognise that actor!' Double it for a British audience. Most of the princes were people from the British TV comedy circuit, the other witches were too, as was Ferdy the trader. Young Dunstan is Ben Barnes who's been all over the place in recent years. Victoria is Sienna Miller. Septimus was Mark Strong. The cast is absolutely wildly stacked. 2) This was one of three movies Pfeiffer released in 2007, marking her return to film after a long hiatus. It's one of the reasons we still have her in cinema today. That trio also includes Hairspray, which is a delight, and has her playing arguably even eviller than here. 3) The song Rule the World by Take That was hugely popular at the time, and the band was too. It was written for this film. 4) A fun minor detail that I think you might have missed - when Tristan restores the ruby and the princes' ghosts move on, Primus through Sextus turn into little white orbs and fly off through the top of the frame, while Septimus turns into a red orb and flies down into the fireplace behind them.

Kelley MacKinnon

This was the last movie my.mother and I watched together... will always hold a special place in my heart

Ray (Fanporium)

I love this movie SO much. The fact that it's not as well-known as Princes Bride is a tragedy. I'm still kicking myself for getting stuck in traffic and missing the chance to buy Tristan's original costume for $400 on eBay back in the day.

Ruth

One of my top favorite movies. I have watched it so many times I’ve also read the book. Answer your question they say very true to the storylines of the book in the movie. There are a few creative differences, but not enough for it to be like super glaring. I love both of them equally, but since I saw the movie first, there’s a special place in my heart for that.

Josh Harrison

This is a beautiful movie, and one that should be better known!

hurryupmode

I like to think of this as a spiritual successor to The Princess Bride. Fun film!

Sone

Btw if you want to see this is deleted scene from the end of the movie . https://youtu.be/gVnZ9fjWHg4?feature=shared

Car

i was literally just thinking about this movie earlier today, i must be psychic or something

funnylilgalreacts

I just watched PIB’s reaction and I saw it then very interesting that Septimus was the one they didn’t make it to heaven.

funnylilgalreacts

Before I posted to Youtube, I might actually change the title to say “Stardust is criminally underrated”

Wild_Lee_Coyote

Woopsie is a term for a silly accident, it’s also an archaic term for someone who would have a closet full of dresses with an all male crew. Shakespeare is one of my favorite characters.

MertzRocks

Had to replay that scene slo-mo to even catch that; wow. I will always prefer physical media tyvm!

MertzRocks

Obviously something didn't happen right, here in the US. I saw it w/my then GF in theater. I sort of recall some advertising (but the jar of eyeballs is the only thing I remember from any ad or trailer). I think our theater was maybe half-full-ish but then I only remember one thing I ate for dinner last week only I cooked for friends LOL! :D

Nathanael Fuller (Polygon Wizard)

While editing this reaction, I discovered that Stardust is coming out on 4k Bluray in September and immediately pre-ordered it. Can't wait to watch this delightful movie yet again but in shiny 4k quality.

Joel Palenychka

Now that you've seen this and Sandman might I also recommend American Gods and Good Omens? Also written by Neil, although Good Omens was co-written by Terry Pratchett, an equal master of fantasy fiction. American Gods is a much more modern and, ahem, mature fantasy story involving ancient gods... and modern gods. Good Omens is a terrifically satirical take on the End Of The World and riffs heavily on the movie Omen released in the seventies.

Henkan

Good Omens has some fantastic main character chemistry between David Tennant and Michael Sheen as well!

Adrian Knapp

i guess you could say, Everything Claire Danes touches shines

Adrian Knapp

if i recall correctly, septimus is the only red orb due to all the sibling murder since he was the one that pushed the 1st brother off the ledge and poison the other brother and bishop

Moricant

I came to the film having read the book when it was first released. The broad plot is similar but a bit darker in tone. Captain Shakespeare is a a movie only character- they do encounter a sky ship captain but he has a different name and is less significant to the story. There are some purists who dislike the changes from the book but I find it to be a thoroughly delightful movie. Like many others, the immediate comparison my wife and I made was to the Princess Bride and I’ve always found it interesting that neither of those two films found great success on their initial release but later ended up with a passionate fan base.

Bernhard

This movie is delightful! I hadn’t watched it for a long time so I rewatched it just for your reaction. The fight against the witches in the end seemed to drag a bit and I agree that Tristan becoming the king was a bit boring in a movie subverting many expectations, but otherwise it still holds up.

Anders Thomsen

I discovered this years back on (maybe Netflix), and I was expecting a mediocre movie, but I got this gem. And I immediately had to show it to my best mate. It's a cult classic like "The Princess Bride"

Eddie

I saw this movie in a plane off of the airline's movies list. Definitely loved it! Like you mentioned, the marketing might not have been great which is why it didn't do as well. Now, besides Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro, a lot of the actors are more well known; even Neil Gaiman wasn't known that much back then.

Joel Palenychka

Yes, I love their relationship. The best of best friends. It warms my heart every time I rewatch it.

Aaron T

It never hit big in the theaters. The mash of genres, the standout performance of Robert DeNiro and the fact that at the time, porbably none of the actors beyond Deniro and Pfiefer were big draw. However, I like most people discovered this on home release - it's one of my wife's comfort films - and for me, at least, it's a wonderful successor to the Princess Bride.

Rory Owens

I prefer the movie to the book, and think Stardust is one of Gaiman's lesser works. Gaiman is a font of amazing, fantastic ideas, but he can be a bit dark and pessimistic when it comes to creating characters. Adding a bit more overt levity and 'niceness' to the story helped it a lot. There are definite similarities to The Princess Bride, and I think that's what Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman were going for.

Dumaspeaks

Came for the fmab reaction today and saw this. One of my all time favorites and your reaction was just as enjoyable. 👏

William Wood

One of my favourite graphic novels, and movies. I love the cast, and most of Neil’s work. Love your reactions through this. Brill.

TheUndeadFish

Dang it, every time I scroll past this and I read "star", my mind wants to autocomplete it with "gate".

JBK405

I saw this years after it came out, I also missed it completely in theaters. I don't think I'd even heard of it until a friend of mine gave me the "HOW ARE YOU NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS?!?!" treatment. I do prefer the book to the movie, mainly because of the "vibe". The book is a bit more Fairy Tale in a way that the movie wasn't willing to be. More "curses with clever escape clauses" around the story, more "Not malicious but still dangerous" characters and events, etc. The story is still the same, but that makes it a bit of a different experience. But it's a different medium, so things are always going to be changed in the adaptation.

Garrick Smalley

I know I would love your reaction mostly because as you say you love love (as do I). Yes I do remember seeing this in the theater, yes it was fun, no I have not read the graphic novel. I am hoping I can convince you to watch another Neil Gaiman show, Neverwhere. My guess is your editor, Nathaniel, can back me up on this. Neverwhere takes place in London when Richard stops to help a girl named Door. Thus begins a 6 episode TV series. I will say no more for fear of spoilers.

Andy Munden

Is there going to be a full length reation to this as well?
