The Inedible Mattman!

Dost my eyes deceive me!? An early drop of Doctor Who!??? HELL YES!

Moricant

Sarah Jane Smith was of the longest running companions, staring with the third Doctor and continuing with the fourth. K9 was also introduced during the fourth Doctor’s run. The setup with Sarah Jane as a journalist helped by K9 was the premise of an attempted spin-off named K9 and Company that but only the pilot was ever made.

Also, yes ... Sarah Jane Smith is an OOOOLD companion. She's -- she's amazing. I won't spoil anything about her other than to say that she was there for the Doctor for a long time, and saw so many things!! I still cry my eyes out watching this episode. :) <3 I'm so glad you got to react to it!

There is so much to love in this episode but one of my favorite parts is the very end of the scene where Rose and Sarah-Jane have their big argument/rapprochement. As I understand it David walked into the scene with a curly moustache and silly beard drawn on his face and Billie and Elizabeth just *LOST IT*. Knowing that reaction is entirely genuine from the two of them, who as actors must have been dealing with similar feelings as their characters just ads something special to the moment.

If you're interested, this is the scene where Sarah Jane and the Doctor parted ways in the original series: https://youtu.be/VRzNUNESH04?si=8R_hogiLv4GtS5H- Sarah Jane was the companion when David Tennant was watching Doctor Who growing up. Getting to actually be the Doctor with her was something special.

Oh yessssss! Early Who! Mary Jane and K9. The Doctor being made fun of by his companions (always great). And Micky joins the team. This is a great way to start the week!

2024-08-26 16:24:28 The headmaster was played by Anthony Head who has been in many shows and movies but is probably best known for his role as Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which I assume you haven’t seen yet—and if so, you really should. More recently he played another Rupert (Mannion) on Ted Lasso, which is probably where you’ve seen him last.

I loved the Sarah Jane Chronicles so much. It was a fun quirky show. I had a crush on Elizabeth in my early 20s so that helped. Lol. Just a piece of warning to help you out: KEEP THE TISSUES CLOSE BY in a few episodes. I know sometimes you look around and don't have any on hand. 😇

There was a long-running series of ads in the 80s for instant coffee (I want to say Tasters Choice, but I'm not sure which side of the Atlantic that branding is from) that Anthony Head was in, about a man and a woman who lived across the hall from each other, silently flirting. These ads aired in both the UK and US, but the "story" concluded in the UK ads but continued on in the US market. This episode was absolutely a treat for me, and I was interested to see how you'd react to the classic elements, and how the Sarah Jane arrival and reveal would play for you. Glad to see you get swept up in it all. Behind the scenes note- when Rose and Sarah Jane are talking about The Doctor and he walks in, wanting an authentically humorous reaction, David Tennant took a marker and scribbled all over his own face, which clearly worked. And explains why Rose was pointing at The Doctor with the sonic screwdriver while she laughed.

When you said you love both Doctors, points off for calling yourself a ho and not a Doctor Ho.

I think what's so special about this episode is that even people who have never watched Classic Who (and even if they've never heard of the Sarah Jane Adventures) immediately understand the context of who she is, and understand the significance of the relationship. Such a well-written, and well-acted episode.

If you've seen Anthony Head (Mr. Finch) before, it might be in Buffy the Vampire Slayer where he plays a main character.

You can absolutely love multiple Doctors. I personally adore all of them, even if in some cases I still don't like them as much during particular seasons. Like ten years later and I still don't particularly enjoy Capaldi in his first season, but I LOVE him in his second and third.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten about those ads until you reminded me, but those are what I recognized Anthony Head from when Buffy first premiered. What a blast from the past! Since YouTube has everyting, check out this compilation of the ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsN4YwbM9kw

If you love multiple regenerations of the Doctor, you're still loving the same person.

I loved your reaction, thanks! I got tired of being a broken record on youtube agreeing with you about how great Eccleston was but how Tennant will win all of our hearts (for me, in this episode and the next). I'm new here on your Patreon and I'm having a horrible time trying to sync my Amazon Prime version with your reaction. Every minute or two they are already out of sync so I spend most of my attention trying to look for scene changes to figure out which window to pause to try to match them up again, and I miss like 75% of the reaction. Has anybody found a solution to this?

Paul Hess

I see that you post two full length reactions, a Blu-Ray and an Amazon so I’ll give that a try. It will probably solve my problem, but I am having trouble imagining what sort of witchcraft you must be doing to make both versions at once!

michael denny

well now we you have to react to buffy to fangirl like the rest of us
