Yesss! Donna was my fave companion for 10.

Maybonics

Donna!!!!

Frederik Jensen

Donna!! Best companion. MVP. She's back!

Craig

Just a quick reminder that Ange wanted the next companion to challenge the doctor more and for the Doctor and his companion to lay down boundaries on their relationship

Endymions Rage

One of my fav seasons. Wilfred Mott is the best

Moricant

A kilo is a bit over 2 pounds (1 pound is 454g)

Josef Schiltz

Bernard Cribbins. Legend.

Cara Watson

S4 is quite possibly my favourite series of NuWho ever. 10 and Donna have such a good dynamic. Cannot wait to see your reaction to the rest of the series 😁

DarkStar 57

Oh my goddddd, I have been waiting for thissss and your reaction did NOT disappoint!!! Loved your reaction to the surprise at the end as well as your description of that sadness and excitement mix when thinking about a regen is sooo real! I cant wait to see the rest of this series from you!!!

@PendragonUK

As someone that's been watching for a very long time, I was not happy about Catherine Tate becoming a full-time companion. Catherine's comedy sketch shows were, in my option, terrible. Loud bombastic base humour. The last time they had a famous person as a companion was back in classic Who, you could never forget who they were. However, I was so wrong about Catherine Tate. Yes she is funny but her dramatic acting brings so much depth and sincerity to the story telling. There will be tears...

Florian Hoyer

the second we see rose the DOOMSDAY music starts its so great xD

Florian Hoyer

i mean granddad wilfred already saw the doctor he was in the kiosk in the titanic episode

@PendragonUK

I can never forget that he was a companion back in the '60s. OK it was in the non-cannon films (Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D.) He will always be one of the Doctor's companions to me.

The Untempered Cynic

There's a bit of a sad backstory to this episode. Howard Attfield, who played Donna's Dad Geoff in the Runaway Bride sadly passed away during filming after recording a few scenes on the hill with Catherine Tate. So they brought back Bernard Cribbins from Voyage of the Damned as Wilfred Mott, her Grandad and reshot the scenes. Cribbins already had Dr Who ties. He was in the second movie Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966) a cinematic version of Dr Who starring Peter Cushing as an unusual portrayal of the Doctor that's only superficially like the show and feels more like an HG Wells movie adaptation.

The Untempered Cynic

I agree, I've always thought that if I knew what the deal was, had an ironclad guarantee they wouldn't dissolve all of me I'd probably be fine with that as a diet plan. I'd even be cool with putting a DVD on or CBeebies for the little chonkers so they could wait to be picked up in the warm.

Notes from a Doctor Who fan: 1) DONNA! I, uh, think that might be it. My favourite companion and my favourite season. In for a good one.

Josef Schiltz

For Angela. Absolutely no spoilers. Bernard was so instrumental, amongst other celebrities, in the series, Jackanory, for getting children to read. For Angela, this was akin to Reading Rainbow - I think it is called - in the US which was fronted by Levar Burton. Bernard was also the newspaper vender in the Voyage Of The Damned Christmas special. He was hastened in to play the role of Donna's grandfather when the actor, Howard Attfield, who played Donna's father previously, died suddenly. His scenes with Catherine Tate up the hill were reshot with Bernard. Jackanory was a long-running series of the same nature of literary encouragement in which various celebrities sat and did a serial over a week just reading a book over the television to children. the Jackanory series of book were published for the children to read for themselves. This series, back in the 60s, was the first time that I saw Bernard. We were all greatly saddened at his passing. Bernard Joseph Cribbins (29 December 1928 – 27 July 2022) was an English actor and singer whose career spanned over eight decades.

Space Monkey Mafia

There is a red nose day special with these two that is quite funny. Catherine plays one of her sketch comedy characters. Davis Tennant is Catherine Tates new English teacher is the name.

Ronald Johnson

I shared to her the video of Donna and David English after the bride video. I thought this was pretty funny and she was cute. The first time watching this season i thought Donna was annoying but upon rewatch I like her more. This and episode 6 is my favorite of this season.

Ashley

I have to say, when I found out Donna was coming back for a whole season, I was not looking forward to it. I found her character annoying in the xmas episode. However, the character development quickly turned me around. You can see in the first episode that she is still Donna but with an added awareness of the world around her that makes her more enjoyable to watch, a little less self involved but still super funny. She has become my favorite companion, I think. And I agree, I loved Martha but hated the fact that she was always mooning over the doctor. No worries of that with Donna, lol.

I am so pleased this didn’t get spoiled for you. I’ve been anticipating this one. Donna is my favourite modern companion and so I’m really happy this worked for you.

Nate Hammer

Finally!! One of the main reason I really like Donna is that they didn't saddle her with all the romantic crap that they did with Martha, as well as, Donna kinda calls out the Doctor on some of his bs. When Donna went to leave the car keys, I sat forward on my chair and said "wait for it" , eager to see Angela's reaction to Rose. Did not disappoint.

Benjamin

I absolutely adored your reaction to the adipose, watching a doctor who episode is literally a rollercoaster of emotions then the literal gut punch at the end of the episode

Gambit3838

I want my own little adorable fat friend/pet. I don't care they are literal fat. I want one. 🤣

Leenis

Everyone has their favorites for various reasons, but Donna is definitely my favorite companion. Her chemistry with the Doctor without any sexual overtones is so fun to watch! She is older and less doe eyed then the younger companions, which gives her confidence more of natural extension of her character. My favorite Doctor will always be 12, but identifying my favorite is kind of like measuring the distance between the gold, silver, and bronze winners at the Olympics. They are all top tier, and the difference for me is only a tiny fraction.

Fred Aczon

I envy you watching S4 for the first time, this season is so fun. I totally get not wanting to know spoilers or cast changes or additions. But when this show was airing, the BBC would carefully put out casting announcements to the show and then subvert people's expectations to mess with their emotions, essentially trolling us. It was kinda brilliant.

Leenis

Has anyone else seen the Doctor Who Parody by The Hillywood Show®? It is so good. It a parody of the Time Warp dance from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. If it wasn't for the last line, there would be no spoilers. But we got to remember to remember to bring it up again after Tennant's run as the Doctor.

The Untempered Cynic

He also made a top 10 record in 1962 "Right Said Fred" that the band later took their name from. https://youtu.be/7IrBL0WfSR0?si=-d5hDYS9IeH6gNkv

The Untempered Cynic

Yeah we were all a bit concerned the show might lose it's pathos as she was only known for comedy sketch shows. I can say this without fear of spoiling as I know Angela is ahead, but by episode 3 anyone who had that opinion was in awe of her range as an actress.

Nicholas

Same I was just waiting hahaha. She’s gonna enjoy this season

Oty Safiry

My favorite Tennent season.

The Girl Who Was Erased

Oh, Donna Noble love of my life (and Wilf)!! She by far my favourite companion and probably my favourite character in DW, and I'm so glad for your enthusiastic reaction about her return. Also this episode might not be the grandest ever and the plot is fairly simple, but it's such a feel good episode (with a few wild twists and emotional scenes as well) and one of the most re-watchable episodes IMO. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

Anders Thomsen

It's called "Whovian", Angela ;) Also; Mott! Now it's no longer a spoiler that he came back (The news vendor in Voyage of the Damned)

Michele Jean

Well done, I am so glad to have seen that Rose Tyler reaction.

Lord Leo

"YOU'RE NOT MATING WITH ME SUNSHINE" lives rent free in my head

Anders Thomsen

29:21 - Epic reaction 40:14 - The first ever episode of Who I watched was S7ep12, so when I went back at watched from the beginning, it had already happened... and I think I though "Hey! I know her... I didn't really like her"... I did like her more in this season, though

Jeremy B

I’ve been looking forward to your reaction to this episode all month! It’s so much fun and one I rewatch often as it never fails to make me smile. A brilliant introduction to Donna’s role as fulltime companion. It harks back to those 1950s Hollywood comedy caper movies (without the romance) with that jaunty score. The near misses between the Doctor and Donna are beautifully choreographed culminating in the mime through the window. We were all waiting for you to see that scene! 😊 It also helped that David and Catherine are great friends in real life. This is a lot of fans’ favourite Tenth Doctor / Companion combination and favourite season to feature David. Enjoy the ride. We knew in advance that Catherine Tate was returning as the new fulltime companion, but there was unease among some fans who only knew her comedy work. They needn’t have worried. In her hit TV sketch show, Catherine played a wide range of different characters and as you’ve seen here in the scene here with Donna's Grandad, she’s a talented dramatic actor, able to convey genuine emotions and empathy. But people who only knew her for a couple of her particularly brash comedy characters (the foul-mouthed Nan and disinterested teenager Lauren) feared the worst. I was so pleased when she proved them completely wrong. We definitely didn’t know Billie Piper was returning in this episode though! It was a genuine surprise. I love that the brilliantly talented Sarah Lancashire described her character Miss Foster as a “slightly warped Mary Poppins”! Sadly, Howard Attfield, who played Donna's father in The Runaway Bride passed away after filming some of the scenes for this episode. The scenes he filmed included the one with Catherine on the hill where the pair talk about travelling to Venus and looking for a Blue Box. I think Howard’s scenes were included as a DVD extra as I saw them on YouTube a few years back. The producers retired Howard’s character out of respect and introduced Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott in his place. Bernard, a much, much loved British actor, did such a wonderful job. Wilfred is also the same character as the newspaper seller in Voyage of the Damned. They dedicated the episode to Howard in the closing credits.

sothcweden

I abosolutely ADORE that parody. They did a couple amazing ones for Supernatural too. Seconding making sure it's mentioned once there's a new Doctor.

James Fleischman

I've tried watching Catherine Tate's comedy and it's not for me. But I absolutely love her as Donna.

Moricant

I think you might be misreading? A kilogram is 1000g, which is slightly more than 2 lb (908g).

Josef Schiltz

Would that be a "Great! Mum's singing!" moment or an "Uh oh! Mum's singing!" moment?

Thomas Gilbert

Prepare for the BEST series! Incoming!! Every episode is just perfect!

David Vandervliet

Of all the seasons of Doctor Who - s4 May just be my favorite. Banger after banger I am going to miss Xander’s title screens tho By the way. That was his tie wrapped around his head when he came in singing and inventing the Banana daqurai 200 years early. lol

Brianna Gray

Since you're someone who doesn't like the Doctor having romance with his companion, you're not going to be dissapointed with Donna! They are true platonic besties!! Donna is my favorite companion, you're gonna love this season!

Charlie Passingham

Ah Series 4, one of the best of the show, especially the second half where it's just banger after banger. Wilf is a treasure and that Rose reaction was everything, I knew it would get you lol

John the Rambling Scriblerian

And now you've properly met my, hands down, faovrite character in Who, the one character I wish I could just hang with: Grandad! Wilfred is an absolute treasure. As for Donna... sher attitude and bearing and sharpness make her, in my opinion, one of the best companions EVER. It's been a while since I've seen this episode... literally years. I had completely forgotten the Rose cameo, and I think we shared a bit of a jump there!

Ben “Bentendo” Dawson

Bernard ❤️ a national treasure, should have been Sir Bernard! (He was the newspaper seller from Voyage of the Damned if you didn’t link the two, Kylie in London etc.) And we all love this show too 💙💙 60+ years and counting!

Arriane S.

I adored this reaction, it was like watching it again for the first time! And you're so right, the Adipose are SO adorable! You can get plush toys of them too! <3

John the Rambling Scriblerian

I like to think that, thirty years or so down the road, I will possess that wonderful Wilfred Energy. Instead I’ll probably have Old Man Muppet in the Balcony Energy. Dang it.

V1rtu0u5

Adorably Horrific. one of my fave episodes =)

William Wood

Excellent, lovely episode, but quiet emotional seeing Bernard Cribbins, every time now, he was an integral actor in my childhood, from movies and children’s tv.

SweetCandle

Adorasturbing.

Helen

fun behind the scenes fact! david tennant and catherine tate met during the filming of the christmas special and legitimately became best friends; they've acted together a bunch outside doctor who and that friendship/chemistry REALLY shows.
