for me this was the first major heartbreak of the show. john immediately gave up his chance to see his family again in order to be there for his kid. as a fatherless child myself it really was gut wrenching to watch that future be ripped away from him and his daughter (who was the last of the Browder-Buller clan to appear btw). “you take care of my little girl.” I sobbed. I raged at the injustice of it. 20+ years and I still don’t understand the point of boinking the pk spy. dislike. writers made a mistake imo. rygel didn’t give a ropey dren about the prince lol. his only concern was his own execution. once crichton showed back up rygel was right as rain again. my first thought on the final scene (other than OMG OMG OMG lol) was certainty that TPTB wouldn’t be showing us john and aeryn were genetically compatible if they weren’t going to do something about it. that faith sustained me for a long time. I definitely understand the ambivalence about these eps. I enjoy parts of them and can appreciate the importance of others, but it’s a little too bittersweet for me. I was very much looking forward to your reaction tho ☺️ at this point in the series, you understand the tragedy of being a fan of farscape. and why we get so excited when new fans emerge. I’ve seen shows that ran 10+ seasons and collectively couldn’t touch the quality of just one of farscape. but I might be a little biased.

A little bit of trivia: Crichton's potential son and his soon to be daughter were played by Ben and Francesca's real children. We all suspected that was the case, having seen them at the Burbank conventions in the early years. Ben finally confirmed it at the last Farscape con when they were both in their twenties.

The first scene in part 1 and the last scene in part 3 makes the entire 3 episodes for me. Whenever someone asks me why I love Farscape I tell them it's the best scifi love story ever.

Ben was really protective of his kids (as he should be) when they were littles. didn’t use them for photo ops, rarely discussed them. for the most part I think (hope) fans respected his wishes.

I love that final scene. Aeryn saying everything she still can't say, and John understanding and being happy with what she can currently give him. I think that made this whole trilogy of episodes worthwhile. And Claudia Black's acting as Aeryn defies her fears and holds the vial out to John never fails to floor me. The whole statue thing is bonkers, even for Farscape. The plotting is clunky and overly twisty, and the fight scenes are awkward because the Scarran can barely move, but who cares? John having sex with Jenavian was a bit weird but... they're both incredibly hot so I get it. Meanwhile, Aeryn is stuck with a guy who can't hold on to a frelling wall but can hit her with some tough truths. Scorpius gets more interesting - a mix of two races, one of which is a big, hot (temperature wise) horse-lizard, and the other one that can't handle heat at all. And we know he has cooling rods in his head, but now it looks like he's fine with the heat. He was just faking a weakness. For John's benefit?

Scorpious put on a show. Not only letting the Scarran think he was weak but also letting John think he was in control at the end. Scorpy is another league, he's toying with everyone in that finale because he ends up getting what he wants. Can't wait till Ep 15, it's probably my favorite of the entire series.

The Crichton & Jenavian hanky-panky always seemed a little out of place to me; it doesn't seem particularly in character for John, and doesn't really seem to affect anything later on. Maybe it's supposed to show that Aeryn has finally pushed John over the edge with her repeated spurns of his advances, but there's no emotional payoff because Aeryn never finds out about it (unless I'm remembering it wrong), nor does John seem to have any lingering guilt, and it's all reversed in that coda anyway. So... 🤷‍♂️ I dunno. I do struggle a little with that scene, I guess, but honestly, in the end, the rest of the trilogy is so strong that I'm willing to forgive that one scene as a minor misstep. Plus, hot people having sexy time on screen is never a *bad* thing, is it?

This show has so much heart, and that's why it's still loved. The performances carry all of the load of this "stupid show" Every one. Farscape just came along a little too early. Scifi was still considered kiddie stuff, and the internet was still just getting its place as a community to gather as fans. A 2025 Farscape could be huge, if given a chance. I don't think it would be quite the same thing. It would be darker, which might take too much of its farscapyness away from it. Ben and Claudia's chemistry are a huge part of the heart of this show, but the whole cast just is amazing. Anthony Simcoe and Wayne Pygram do so much despite the layers of makeup and costuming they are buried under. The Puppets are even incredible character performances. This story's logical faults are completely forgiven by me because of how they cast handles them. There are so many great episodes we have coming up. I can't wait to see your reactions.

So say we all, to quote another quality show that followed many years later. Looking back, I really think Farscape was one of the first "genre" shows to qualify as "peak TV," even though it aired years before that era is widely considered to have begun. With its intelligent writing, emotional complexity, rich character development, ongoing complex storyline, and its willingness to subvert expectations and go places that other shows heretofore had avoided, I think Farscape can legitimately be seen as a spiritual (if not literal) progenitor of series like BSG, GoT, Lost, The Expanse, and many more. It really was well ahead of its time. Which is clear when you see how well it holds up a quarter of century after it was made.

well said! and yeah, 2025 could be huge, but wouldn't be the farscape we know. there's something so sincere and unhinged and horny about the farscape we know and love that would get dismissed as cringe among other things. it was a little too early, but it was also right on time :-)
