I'm on Korra's side here. She's been a prisoner her whole life, so I'd probably be impatient in her place. She was already a pretty aggressive little kid, then she gets mostly locked away for 12 years. Bending was the only thing she had, and being the avatar was the only thing she was taught. I think they did a really good job making her a product of her upbringing. Could be worse, she could run away and doom the world to 100 years of war.

I don't think there's any particular reason why Eska and Desna have personalities like that. I think it's just a writer's choice for something funny to work with. And with Korra's teachers, why are people treating this like she has to have only one teacher? We had different teachers for math and history, so why wouldn't she just say that Unalak seems like the right teacher for the "dealing with spirits" subject? She will come back to Tenzin for more airbending instruction.
