Somehow in their discussion about timestop they don't realize it could be flashy if we were shown the Stand users actions during stopped time. They just think of it being only shown from an outsiders perspective.

I’m curious when we get to DIO running around will they stick with the idea that he can manipulate reality: moving Polnareff, Nucasacu being in the coffin, Senator Philips. All of these instances would definitely lead them to believe he can manipulate reality.

Well, obviously. Dio does those things for tactical purposes, not to have a laugh at Polnareff and so on. Moving his enemies during it makes it harder for them to figure out what his ability really does.

of course he could have. That's the joke. The final fight with DIO is full of that. It's almost comedic.
