This episode just showcases what a master naoki urasawa is at giving backstory. He makes everyone feel alive and relevant, more than just secondary character. Well, monster as a whole does, actually...I mean, the dude that taught tenma to shoot still remains in my memory even though it’s been years since I first read it. He shows up for a moment in the beginning but you can still care for him after all this time because his story is so compelling. Rather than mystery, or the thought there’s monsters in us all, it’s these little pieces that have us feel there is hope yet that makes this story so great. P.s. great discussion! So much on point as usual

This was a pretty good episode. You asked about Johan somehow helping Tenma escape last week, and I think you just saw his answer. Johan had to have seen that Tenma was arrested as it was all over the news. However, it's not Johan's style to just simply help Tenma get free. He does it in a twisted way. He has Roberto, who is already there for a reason, use a threat on Eva's life to spur Tenma to make the only decision he can, even though it will incriminate him more. He will have to escape.
