Is this the full length reaction or the normal reaction is going to be timer based from now on?

Peach

I think when a new anime season starts they should leave some spots open for new anime. They're doing MP100 season 2 but there's other good anime that they could be watching that's new this season instead of watching something from 2009

Chance Lewis

The part with her and Araragi is just making conversation and fucking around

Sasane Sane

Shinobu is not nothing... Shinobu is love Shinobu is life^^

Charles Sgnt

Having a problem with the first half of the episode is... well.. for future episodes... not good news :/

DrWomanRespecter

The first half of the episode is just banter, there's nothing to exactly understand about it. It's pretty straightforward

Exiova

Can I just ask where you guys are watching this because I had trouble syncing you guys with crunchyroll.

Irimu

Are you really complaining that they're watching freaking Monogatari XD?

Ryan Long

Your pretty much spot on with the first half when you said it was just kind of banter. It's meant to be funny, but because it has a lot of word play that only really works in Japanese, and doesn't make a lot of sense when translated directly. The scene does kind of come off as weird and pointless to some, but overall it doesn't have anything too terribly important to interpret.

Ryan Long

Also, there are some things that are in the light novel that don't really get conveyed all that well, like WHY Senjougahara kept putting on and taking off clothes in front of him

warui warui

Best girl Gahara is starting to emerge. If you want banter, then oh boy get ready for best banter girl next.

warui warui

Monogatari's a cult classic and it really deserves solid reactions and discussions to it

dale cunningham

No matter what it is, it's somebodies fetish.

Marek Siciński

it didn't 'get old', the repetition was part of the point

Marek Siciński

it was not fanservice, the bizarrety and jarringness was the point, and the dragging on

Yuion

wtf (?)

Cookie

Not exactly, it's a pretty clever commentary on how the "fanservice" in the show works. Hitagi appears naked/in underwear, and tells Koyomi (the viewer) to enjoy it. Koyomi (the viewer) is confused and flustered since there seems to be no reason for the fanservice. But then we find out that there is an actual reason for it that ties in with her character, and after that the topic never shifts to something sexual, and Koyomi looks her straight into the eye. This is a nice way of showing that the "sexual scenes" in the show will always have some reason to them and tell us something about the characters.

TheHumourTumour

Any stream without the Aniplex intro. Dont watch this on CR anyway its locked at 480p even with membership

TheHumourTumour

Well dear Peach, the shows on their polls are completely decided by what people want them to watch and in pretty much every poll they've had so far there were always 2-3 brand new ones (the most famous ones). It doesn't make sense to react to a show just because it's been hyped up before it's release. Take the currently airing 'the Promised Neverland' for example. There was no guarantee if it was going to live up to the manga or not so we simply wait for it to air for a bit and when it does (and it definetly did) people will want it on a poll. And yes, the SoS Bros listen to the majority of people and put up such shows in polls (Such as Slime Isekai to name a recent example). Also, you seem to be bothered by the fact that the show is from 2009 which is interesting bc that happens to be the year FMA:B came out, one of the most critically acclaimed show of all time.

Sharknessa

I didn't find anything confusing about it. Maybe it's the alternate subtitles you're using, since it seems there's some differences. Could you just watch it on Crunchyroll like everyone else? It'd really help with the synch issues too. At least with the CR subtitles it was extremely clear, and didn't need interpreting.

Peach

No i'm not complaining that they're watching Monogatari, i've never seen this anime but I also explained myself wrong. I'm not trying to say what they should watch instead of this, i'm not saying anime from 2009 sucks either and you're right, it's hard to tell what will be a good anime even if it is hype but I am saying they seem to block themselves in with trying to do as many series as they can and don't leave themselves room for when new anime do come out and then have to wait until they finish a series to watch them. Not trying to fight, was only an opinion and an observation.

Peach

I'm also saying this because I've just been seeing a lot of people complain that they arent watching new series and was curious as to why they dont leave spots open just in case. no need for aggression

Felipe

I believe they watching it on a site like gogoanimes, which i'm glad theyre doing so. Monogatari is not avaiable in CrunchyRoll in my town, and VPN'ing it would be ass...

RK

Crunchyroll has the bad TV version as far as I'm aware and doesn't even have the full season.

warui warui

Yes, do not use crunchyroll. Watch the blu ray version if possible.

Shugadonk

Very rarely is a conversation in the Monogatari series about nothing. A lot of times a conversation is about something or some concept that is explored later in the Arc. The next episode has a huge example of one of these.

Raymond Throne

There's an element of Hitagi fundamental distrust of others expressed through it. Remember that much of her trauma stems from a rape attempt when she was a child. The act of displaying herself to Araragi isn't actually a "reward" for helping her, but something more akin to a test of his motivations; did he help her out of a sense of lust, and is just waiting to take advantage of her? You can see it throughout the scene, her confusion when he doesn't take the "bait", trying to tease out the reason why (asking about Hanekawa, trying to bait him into talking about his sex life, etc), and eventually her acceptance of the fact he was just trying to help by sincerely offering to treat him to a crab dinner sometime.

Raymond Throne

I mean there are definitely scenes intended primarily for the author to mess around with meta jokes or Japanese wordplay, but he almost always takes the opportunity to introduce a relevant theme or idea at the same time. Occasionally he hides incredibly important character information in what seems to be an innocuous comment. It's always important to, even during scenes that "feel" like they're just comedy, pay attention to what the characters are actually saying, and WHY.

Raymond Throne

Tell me about it. Being able to identify subtext in seemingly unrelated dialogue is mandatory to understand, like, 80% of Monogatari's artistic merit. And being able to identify visual metaphor is the remaining 20%. Being unable to identify any of either in half the episode and deeming it "padding" is, uh, bad.

Jake Thompson

I always thought it was interesting that she has office supplies as patterns on her underwear, which we've seen are her weapons. Here she's using her sexuality as a weapon, to poke and prod Araragi into revealing what he's really after in doing her this favor.

Daniel Salgado

So you are saying that they should stop watching so much anime at the same time, leaving free space in the schedule to fill whith new hype anime. That seems pretty childish, why they have to stop watching good old animes just to watch new animes when they are airing? They can watch it later and even if people are complaining about it doesn't mean is an actual problem. There are plenty of anime reactors who enslaved themselves into the infinite loop of seasonal anime, there is no need for more.

Alex Chhuon

Each scene in monogatari is there for a reason, despite how silly and odd they may seem sometimes. It's very similar to analyzing a novel in an English class sometimes as the author likes to hide facets of the characters in plain sight through symbolism, implications, and of course their actions. Sometimes what's implied in the scene isn't obvious until having learned something else later in the episode. The first watch can definitely be confusing at first, like the first question to be asked in this episode is "Why is she walking around naked and in her underwear?" But after having learned that somebody had tried to rape her, this seems even odder. "Why would somebody that was almost raped, walk around naked in front of a stranger(especially a guy)? Shouldn't she be scared?" But maybe that's why she did it? How could she trust him, after all shouldn't she think that guys are just after her body now? Maybe, the whole thing was a test to see what is it that Araragi wanted from her, was it just her body? It's these series of questions and uncovering of the characters that make the show what it is. Everything is done quite deliberately, and is there to cause us to question and unravel what is going on.

R_K41

Jacob: Nah, clearly it's just an excuse for some fanservice.

Peach

Childish? I'm not the one trying to fight with people on the internet about a tiny opinion that doesnt matter? Calm down. It's not like i'm saying "they're not watching my favorite anime how dare they REEEEEEE". Do people not know how to have a civil conversation anymore? It was just an observation I was stating, dont get offended over something so trivial, my gosh.

Steven Banaszak

Can't wait for next week when they meet the most important girl in the world.

2021-07-08 06:02:19 I'm so apprehensive about their reaction to the next "arc", I'm a noob myself in monogatari and so far only watched up to episode 10 of bakemonogatari and I reeeeeally enjoyed it so far! it's been a while since an anime has hooked me up this fast but gotta say... as much as I accept general fanservice and feel kind of neutral about it, there are some scenes in the next arc that literally made me pause the episode and roll my eyes... I understand that some scenes might appear as mere fanservice when they are technically not because there are reasons as to why they are present, but there are still some things they did with the next girl that I find kind of creepy.

Nope, Crunchyroll is fine. CR Subs seem to be better than their version's, and I don't have any blu ray version of this so that's not an option! But I'm not watching anymore after this episode, so I guess it doesn't matter to me what version they use. Next ep is where I dropped it.

Sharknessa

Yeah, I had no problem with the fanservice. But I draw the line at child molestation.

Daniel Salgado

I wasn't trying to fight, I was simply saying my opinion about your opinion. And did you really expect to have a civil conversation on the internet? That's funny. And more than me the one who looks offended over something trivial it's you. Next time that you are going to post an opinion on the internet get ready for receiving response without acting like if the whole world it's against you or everyone is trying to offend you.

profHoyden

ANE's subs are consistently said to be better by the entire fanbase of Monogatari than Aniplex(the ones on CR). Aniplex might make it easier to comprehend without thinking but it totally strips a lot of the more hidden meaning in doing so. It also takes away that we're experiencing the story from Araragi's point of view, and that he doesn't totally understand Senjougahara there.

Dr. Phantasma

A huge part of the fanservice is mocking the way other anime use fanservice. Such as the way that anime treats younger characters and seems to have no problem sexualizing them. I won't defend every decision of Nisioisin but the bit works decently in this season. In later seasons however, I feel that they take that bit too far. Monogatari usually hits when satirizing anime tropes, but sometimes Nisiosin misses the mark.

2023-03-18 11:58:18 So in other words "let's mock them by doing exactly what they do" ... ? yeah nah, I personally don't think that makes any sense. Did Nisiosin himself (or any person who worked in this anime) say that, or is that just the excuse the fans made up to justify these scenes ? (I bet it's the second one)

I mean, the whole show is constantly full of satire so it shouldn't be any surprise that they make fun of it lmao. I hate loli crap as much as the next guy, and I think Nisiosin misses the mark, but he clearly is trying to convey their relationship in a specifically mocking way. I think Demo's video does a good job talking about the issue (especially within Monogatari): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Owa5KcQ9Mxc . He starts talking about Monogatari around the 30 second mark. I personally would much prefer the show without the lolishit, but the rest of the show far more than makes up for it.

Dr. Phantasma

Also just letting you know I'm not one of those "it's all just satire" or "it's just a joke" guys. I just think there are some gags that are done deliberately intended as satire. Some work really damn well, and some, are just as bad as what they're making fun of or miss the mark (namely Mayoi).
