I was on the fence for this one...

Yeah, I’m still mad about this one. Damn it Araki.

Man in the Mirror

Orange was my least favourite of them all, good thing he has bitten the dust

The blood of the innocent really hurts the most

absolutely perfect execution on this. the timing of narancia's soliloquy was different in the manga, but I think there's absolutely nothing lost by doing it so quickly before the attack. There's no reason to suspect a character is going to die without even getting to say a single extra word after they give a speech like that. I never saw this coming, and I loved it. you don't even get to feel any emotional closure at all, unlike with abbaccio. it's just a sudden blunt pain you've gotta bear, and there's no time to process for either you or the characters.

Charles Farrow

Man Diavolo needs to go to the jojo's equivalent of hell for this. Poor Narancia.

Gin

Wait what? I agree with the last part but that speech makes it so painfully obvious he's going to die that its funny.

Jermaine Tito

no it doesn't. you expect someone to maybe not make it through the conflict as a whole when you hear something like that, but not to die literally immediately after they finish speaking, offscreen to boot. It's the most unexpected thing that could possibly happen. You know he's dead as soon as the time skips, yes, but that is intentional. that's why they don't show you it immediately. because the big shock is over, and all that remains is the dread of actually confronting what's happened.

Gin

I mean again I agree with last part but still think it was stupid obvious. We don't know where Diavolo is and suddenly Narancia lists off 5 different death flags. Its an easy way to add tension to the final encounter.

Jermaine Tito

based on the logic of chariot requiem that had been established we had reason to think we knew exactly where he was. he was correct to think they'd mostly won based on the information presented thus far: he even checked his radar before he began to talk. it also fits with his character to find hope in a moment like that, the others are much more businesslike about these things. Also, I don't obsess over "death flags". on my initial viewing it was much more important to me what narancia was actually saying, and what it says about him as a person. it made it clear he was still naive yet that he'd grown a lot. Of course I suspected that this hope for the future might be dashed in some way, but again, there was no way to know for sure until it actually happened, and the time I was least expecting was Right After he finished talking. Again, if you need proof that this death can catch people off guard even if that scene makes them tense up and fear the worst, look no further than this very reaction video. (idk maybe the editing makes it less clear but in the full length you see they were expecting exactly what i said: for him to die or be in danger of dying at a later, more telegraphed time, like at the end of the episode.

As for whether all stands have the capacity to become corporeal or not, it's just one of the many possible traits stands can posses. Babyface's Son (people always forget to differentiate) was corporeal as well.

BirthdayParty

On the point of killing off Narancia probably hurt Araki just as much, if not more than the audience, you're probably right. Araki has gone on record that he had planned for Fugo to fight Bruno's gang on the boss' orders, but due to circumstances in his life and his own mental state, he wasn't able to bring himself to do that. So you know that killing off Narancia must have hurt him.

Sandias

This episode made me take a two months break from the show when I was watching it for the first time. It hurt too much.

Caesar and fake Polnareff death in part 3 are still the most emotional deaths in all of Jojo. Couldn't care less about anyone in part 5.

Paul Atkins

Narancia’s death is a lot like when someone close to you dies suddenly, like a heart attack or a car accident. They don’t know it’s coming, and neither do you. They don’t get any last words and you don’t get to say goodbye, they’re just gone in the blink of an eye. That leaves you with all of these feelings of grief and loss and things you don’t get to say. But Araki handled those regrets perfectly with the scene of Aerosmith flying to show that he was free and without pain, to help the viewers cope, and with Giorno’s farewell and growing the flowers from Narancia’s home to help the characters cope. In my opinion, this is the best handled death in the entire series because of how real it is. It’s like a mix of Caesar’s, where the death is sudden, but the characters are given time to grieve, and Abbachio’s, where you get one last moment with the character to tie up their story. To me, the brutal, almost cosmic unfairness of Narancia’s death is what makes it just perfect.

They must kiss the fanbase's ass since jojo brings them the most views.

'neither do you' You're joking right? The death fLag was as subtLe as weLL, a fLag. It was EXTREMELY obvious naranc was going to die, the bros even pointed out how on the nose it was (in fuLL Length reaction). I agree with everything eLse you said but don't kid yourseLf about naranc's death compLeteLy bLindsiding the viewer
