I believe Legom (The chicken) is the Author's self insert.

Juniper And Sage

Yep. She wears a Legom head/mask in her public appearances to protect her identity, and has said in interviews that Legom's story here is about her approach to making manga.

This last scene is way better in the manga, bc the paint looks like blood on back and white

FruitsPunchSamurai

since you were curious, the chicken scene was NOT filler lmao

Juniper And Sage

Haru's watercolor and pencil dream sequence was animated by a single animator, Yoko Kuno, not the full studio. She did a really beautiful short called Airy Me, if anyone wants to watch something similar.

Here we go, fake antlers conspiracy!!! Please, for the love of god, someone tell Caleb they regrow. Pretty please?

Zeemod

I was actually certain the anime would skip it since it comes 1-2 chapters earlier in the manga and it's never brought up again. Glad I was wrong

MrShugynator .

Legom the hen was technically not filler because it is included in the manga. Paru likes to include a lot of little world building side stories like that and i'm willing to bet there will never be anime-exclusive filler in this series.

Legosi's jealous face is one of my favorite panels in the manga and is still animated pretty well in this episode. Now I don't now how much of this scene is coincidence and how much is Paru's genius, but this scene always struck me as being very feral and it's not just because of the angry face. FUN FACT: Wolves have a lot of scent glands and some happen to be in their cheeks just like cats. This behavior is most often exhibited either when wolves rub their faces together to claim a mate or when wolves rub into a carcass of prey they killed (perhaps as a celebration?) So imo Legoshi rubbing the paint on his cheek while he says "I love you" has a hell of a lot more meaning than it may seem. It is in fact a wolf behavior that can be attributed to love as his own words convey, or a behavior that can be attributed to killing as his angry face conveys. Or perhaps both since he is quite a complicated and confused boi. Or I could be over analyzing and maybe Paru included the paint rubbing by coincidence.

Different paint colors......mixed emotions?

You don't understand, man. The fake antlers are the key to everything. They prove that Louis is the killer and the existence of the Beastar Illuminati! Follow the money.

Wolves do that irl? That's pretty cool. Mild spoilers for later that people might respond with major spoilers. But later we see Legosi's grandfather do the same motion whenever he gets excited or flustered, I always thought it was just something he picked up from his grand dad.
