My favorite part in all of this is realizing that in a few in-universe years, Julian might become the ultimate Galactic Hero. By hanging around all the rest of Yang's crew, he's learning valuable lessons in terms of leadership, skills, philosophy, etc. (Being a playboy is a bit questionable though) as well as their beliefs, hopes, and dreams. Even Merkatz was quick on the uptake that Julian was something special.

When Kempf declares a kamikaze attack on Iserlohn, the fortress is in "abandon ship" mode. Geiesburg is likely moving in auto-pilot as all personnel are evacuating. Nobody is manning the guns, so the main cannon did not fire on Yang's fleet. Similarly, the metallic fluid armor must need to be operated at main control, but since nobody is there, the Thor's Hammer can do massive damage while the defenses are down. Take note that both fortresses are in close proximity and Thor's Hammer has been charging for a long time (likely 100%), so the final shot is powerful enough to wreck Geiesburg. But really, I love LOGH mainly for the drama, characterization and politicking. The space battles are the icing on the cake for me.
