Thomas Hearns, the boxer Mashiba’s style is based on, fought professionally from 1977-2006 and won world titles in 5 different weight classes 28 pounds apart. Famously he went up from junior middleweight (154 pounds, 70 kg) all the way up to heavyweight (178 pounds, 81) and then BACK down to middleweight while winning world titles in each! Middleweight was also the most competitive it had ever been back then. Takamura says he plans to achieve titles across SIX weight classes, something that has only been done by 2 boxers but it’s even more impressive with his natural weight being at heavyweight

Ty Arnold

Its very common for ufc fighters to cut about 40 pounds before a fight.

Guts: “They call me the struggler” Takamura: “Bitch please

Jcw490

No kidding. It’s one thing for boxers like Pacquiao to do it where the gaps for some of the classes are only 4, 5 lbs. Takamura’s whole range is 46lbs. (154-200)

Envyus

I think Heavyweight was 190 during this time period.

AustinMyB

nah average is closer to 15-20. With 30-40 generally being considered a lot. It does happen but its not common. People generally fight close to their weight class anyways so that they don't have to lose or gain too much from their natural weight.

Ty Arnold

Its considered a lot to cut but it is a pretty common occurrence to see like with Max Holloway, Jon Jones, Darren Till, Tyrone Woodley etc.

Envyus

Takamura was able to do this normally as well. The issue was only having a couple months between fights so he had to stay at an unhealthy for him weight.

FieryArtten

yeah 2 months only to recover and get back right away to cut down to 154 in which this is his 3-4th match only in that weight class
