Rockets and space vehicles do get above Mach 20. Space speeds are very fast, but, in space, they don't have to worry about things like air drag. The ISS is traveling at 17130 mph for example, which is mach 22 and change. Space probes and such are going even faster. On the surface of the moon there is a couple inches of moon dust (astronauts sunk into it. It is a bit scary when the astronauts first went to the moon they weren't sure how solid the surface was going to be when they landed.

Also Mach speed is the LOCALISED speed of sound, meaning it changes with altitude. It would be interesting if Koro-Sensei's top speed was always a true Mach 20 meaning it would decrease the higher he flew, being 6806m/s at sea level and 5898m/s at 40,000ft/12192m, being a just over 900m/s or 13% decrease.

The fastest speed a human ever travelled was 1969 when the Apollo 10 astronauts made re-entry their top speed was 39897km/h or 24790mph which would be over Mach 32.5 based on Mach at sea level or more accurately over Mach 37.5. However, this is all relative to Earth, in reality we are ALL travelling much faster constantly through 3D space, as the Earth orbits the Sun at a speed of 30 kilometres per second or 67,000mph which is at least Mach 88.

Although this isn’t really important and more for fun, in response to the SOS Bros taking about Koro-Sensei flying through the moon, I decided to find out what that would take. To fully destroy the moon, you would need to overcome its gravitational binding energy which is 1.2x1029 joules. Now since the moon wasn’t fully destroyed, let’s say only half of this energy was used, 6x1028 joules, this is the main assumption these following calculations a based on. Koro-Sensei moving at Mach 20 would have 4.632 Gigajoules if his mass was 200kg (actual mass is never stated but 200kg is generous) that energy is 10% more than a tonne of TNT. From speed alone, Koro-Sensei would need to be travelling over 12 quintillion times faster which would be more than 24 billion kilometres per second or Mach 71980311490. Since that speed is over 81 times the speed of light we know that Koro-Sensei did not use speed alone to destroy the moon, however seeing the explosion from this episode shows that he has other destructive powers which he would use to perform this feat. The energy density of Koro-Sensei needed would be 3x1020MJ/kg which is over 3 billion times that of antimatter, which has the highest energy density of anything yet discovered (over 4000 of the most efficient nuclear bombs). Even if Koro-Sensei turned into antimatter and exploded he would need be around 667 million tonnes to achieve the required energy. I know these comments and long and pointless, but it can be fun to apply science to fiction to see what works and what doesn’t, and besides it’s just a few fun science facts for your all. If you’re not interested, you don’t need to read.
