By the way the Hakone Ekiden is a real race. Run with the Wind is based off a novel and a manga.

facts: Almost all Japanese know the Hakone Ekiden. In Hakone Ekiden, ten people will relay 217.1 km round trip from Tokyo to Hakone. It is a university relay race in the Kanto region that is held for two days, January 2nd and the following 3rd. It has the fourth longest distance in the relay road race currently being held, and is extremely popular among student sports competitions in Japan due to the television broadcast that began broadcasting in 1987.
