A bit of the "I love you" stuff is a tricky translation thing. "Like" and "love" in Japanese will generally use the same word ("suki"), so it's more vague than the subtitles might let on. Especially considering that Japanese basically doesn't use pronouns, so the first sentence from Hori was more like "I like [no subject]," and the second was "Your hands! I like your hands, that is." Miyamura's first response was less vague, effectively "I like yours too," but then his second reply was mirroring Hori's first sentence, "I like..." Which was him sort of repeating the sentiment, as Hori understood it, thus the "I heard you." So, there was clear subtext, to be sure, but not quite the cartoonishly transparent confession that it might seem like from such a too-direct translation. Incredibly minor nitpicking of an otherwise perfectly good translation, though. Always enjoy the discussions, and just like to clear up any hazy bits of context that might get lost in translation. ^^ But yeah, Horimiya is one of the most widely-loved mangas of all time-- and for good reason! So you guys are in for a trip! So exciting!

There's a lot of ambiguity in the Japanese language, since they tend to omit the subject and/or target of the sentence. It doesn't translate super well, because you can't do the same thing with English, so the translated 'I love you' which seems completely unambiguous, could totally refer to their hands in the original Japanese.
