The thing I love about the Dodo example is that it went extinct because it evolved in complete isolation, so it had no defense against humans or the things they introduced. In the same sense, this character would probably do fine in complete isolation, but once he enter society and encounters others, he fails because he has no "natural" defenses or survival mechanisms. Like the dodo, he's completely passive and lets things happen to him while chasing his single minded obsession, until that's taken away from him by Odakawa's taxi. In a sense, the dodo was unlucky because it couldn't survive the encounter with "the human world" like our character, but while the dodo went extinct, our character "evolves" into something new, dangerous, and unhinged.
