I actually had similar thoughts when this episode aired and see it first time. That they would all die and new squad would come which Lena would prepare much better to rebel with her or something. Shin I was expecting to be the final boss with his brain taken and Lena's goal would be similar to what Shin was trying for his brother. Well you are farther already in story so you know already how this 1st part went down.
