They talk about not getting an explanation for how Nezuko survives, but the show literally says that the reason Nezuko hasn't talked and has been acting weird the entire show is because instead of regaining her sense of self she instead was trying to find a way to resist the sun.

my own theory is that her never eating humans and sleeping entirely during her first two years really helped her to survive the sun...also her self-sacrificing act "redeemed" her?? but that's just me coping

Tycchi

Yeah... no, I'm going to need a real explanation. I know this author's writing leaves a lot to be desired all the time, but this isn't something she can explain away with willpower

Yuion

The way I see it is that Nezuko, being the first demon to ever not eat any humans was the reason she conquered the sun. We already got told multiple times how different nezuko is as a demon. It was only a matter of time that her changes become big enough for her to be in the sun

RandomThorn

I mean my problem is how they set the whole thing up, if they REALLY wanted to have a moment like that, they needed to make what Nezuko was doing be heroic like holding another demon in the sun. It should have been her moment, instead of something sudden and contrived

Watching a story of DRAWN, FICTIONAL characters, fighting NON-EXISTING equally FICTIONAL HUMAN-EATING-DEMONS, but THATS the point where your logic breaks? Sounds like a YOU-Problem, Bro. Maybe try login back into the Matrix once in a while, to receive latest logic-patch... /s

Kopplex

She was literally ready to die so that her brother can go and save those people. If this isn't heroic I don't know what is...

SAP, this is the first time they really even mentioned a sense of self or Nezuko focusing on regaining something else. Having major plot twists come with barely any foreshadowing isn't the most stellar of storytelling and questioning it is completely valid since the more things happen out of nowhere, the lower the stakes feel. Bastian, by virtue of your own argument it would be an acceptable and satisfying conclusion to the story if Tanjirou first thing next season instantly teleports to Muzan's current location and cuts of his head with a butter knife he found laying around (killing him since the knife just so happened to conveniently be made of Nichirin steel) since both are "drawn, fictional and non-existent." I'm making an extreme example of course but its the same principle.

Since season 1 i was really certain Nezuko is going to be imune to the sun because of several hints/indications. However, most of these reasons why i came to the conclusion previously got proven wrong in this episode. The reason they went for in this episode is, that every demon has their blood demon art and special ability. Nezukos Blood Demon art is manipulating blood, making it burn, explode, or congeal like in season 2 to connect her ripped off body parts. They explained that Nezukos blood sample the Doctor was studying changed severall times over the time, continuously impriving to a point where she even became resistant to the sun. Maybe even because she is a descendant of sun breathing may have played a part. The posibilities to the abilities demons have are endless as we have seen, so it would be totaly ok if one just had the ability to resist the sun from the begining (which muzan was hoping for and thus reproduced that much). there wouldn't need to be another explanation since we also don't need one why upper 5 transforms whatever he touches into fish, or why upper 6 and upper 4 are not simply killed by beheading.

I do admit that it definitely does feel like a deus ex machina kind of situation, but I'm just saying that a plausible (as far as demon slayer goes) reason is given later. As far as Nezuko's sense of self goes, they don't say it explicitly, but to me at least I always wondered why Nezuko never talked and basically acted like a cat half the time while almost every other demon talked and acted like a human (I say almost because I think one of the spider demons didn't talk, but that could have been because Rui mutated them). Again, I do feel like it could have been explained more, I just meant that AN explanation was given. At the end of the day, this is a story for kids and their parents which focuses on humor and emotion more than flushed out magic systems and I think that is fine. Not every power system needs to be as complex and explained as HunterxHunter or Jujutsu Kaisen.

I kind of wish Nezuko died here. She's adorable and all, but she barely has any screentime at all anyway, and it seems like it's a genuine struggle finding a place for her in the power ranking. We wouldn't get the weird whiplash, and it'd become a pretty legendary anime moment. If not that, then some teasers, like maybe change her tattoos into blue Spider Lilies to hint that she's what Muzan was looking for, and rather than her being immune, make her more resistant to the sun. I don't like it when people say Demon Slayer wouldn't be as popular if it wasn't for the adaptation, but I have to admit the phenomenal adaptation is hiding some of the weaker writing.

KaregoAt

Yeah, the adaptation is definitely carrying the series as a whole. There isn't much that's spectacular or supremely original to the writing or concept on its own. It's still enjoyable though, just one of the few series I'd rather watch the anime and pass off on the manga completely.
