1911 Beast:
The 1911 Beast was a pioneering land speed record car built to break landspeed records. It was powered by a gargantuan 28.5-liter inline-four engine, the largest displacement engine ever fitted to a car at the time. This behemoth produced an estimated 290 horsepower, an extraordinary figure for its era, achieved through cutting-edge engineering such as four valves per cylinder and an overhead camshaft. The car's engine alone weighed over 900 kilograms, necessitating a robust yet lightweight chassis. Its design prioritized straight-line speed above all else, with a narrow body that reduced drag, despite limited aerodynamics knowledge. The vehicle had no front brakes, relying solely on rear brakes and engine compression for stopping power, highlighting the sheer focus on speed over handling or safety.
The Beast succeeded in making a name for itself, although unfortunately it never was able to claim the official land speed world record from its fierce rival the Blitz. The Beast's best recorded run was at 131.5 mph. The car's monstrous performance and fiery exhausts made it a spectacle in its time, earning its fearsome nickname. After years of obscurity, the Beast was rediscovered and restored, captivating modern audiences with its thunderous engine and raw, unrestrained power during public demonstrations, securing its legacy as one of the most iconic land speed record cars in history.
1911 Blitz:
The 1911 Blitz was the greatest pre WW1 land speed record breaker. At its heart was a 21.5-liter inline-four engine, producing a powerful 200 horsepower. The Blitz combined a powerful engine, with a light chassis, and advanced aerodynamic principles (for the era). The Blitz was purpose built for straight-line performance over practicality or safety, with rudimentary brakes and a rudimentary suspension system. However, the Blitz' light weight (compared to other recordbreakers) meant that it actually found a second life racing on oval tracks in the United States for several years.
The Blitz achieved global fame when it became the first car to officially break the 200 km/h (124 mph) barrier, reaching 228.1 km/h (141.7 mph) in 1911. Its record-breaking run cemented its status as the fastest car of its time, earning it widespread acclaim and a legendary reputation. In 1914 the Blitz would set the world landspeed record at 142.8 mph, a record that would stand until 1919 when post WW1 aircraft engines would begin to dominate the landspeed record scene.
Currently the pack includes v0.99.5 of the Beast and v0.99.5 of the Blitz. We are working to add our custom HERITAGE Lua code features before we can officially label these as v1.0.
Features:
1. Fully animated driver (feet included).
2. 16 total historically accurate paint schemes across both cars.
3. Accurate engine sounds (this took us forever to get right!)
4. Animated leafspring suspension.
5. Historically accurate white rubber tires.
6. Historically accurate physics based upon researched data. We also have used CSP extended physics to include more accurate additional physics simulation:
a. CSP advanced physics tire code to enable a physical tire simulation (as opposed to a single contact point).
b. RainFX support.
c. Brake temperatures fully simulated, including brake fade.
d. Specified the exact fuel density of the Benzene, Xylene, & Gasoline mixture for fuel weight CG purposes.
e. Tire wear visuals, so you can actually see the tires wearing. And the tire will even explode visually if they blow.
f. Visual tire flex and deformation.
g. Transmission damage model.
h. Engine damage model, with misfiring and power loss based on current engine health.
i. Dozens of advanced CSP improvements over default Assetto Corsa physics engine.
