I suppose strictly speaking, it's still week one? Even so, the Digital Foundry #content meeting occurred this morning and here is what the team is up to! Obviously, there may well be many pivots, depending on what CES throws up, but these are the projects we've agreed on.

  • Rich (ie me) wasn't able to make it to Vegas, but I'll be following up on events and continuing my mini-ITX project, as well as handling DF Clips duty of course with an eye to maximum thumbnail amusement - as usual.

  • John is looking to continue the Saturn vs PlayStation series, with a view to tackling shooting games next, but first order of business is to check out the extraordinary Dreamcast port of GTA 3. There's a sample image above, if you hadn't noticed!

  • Tom is looking at Bloodborne running on PC under the ShadPS4 emulator. What's the state of play there? Is this the root forward to the closest thing we'll get to a 60fps remaster?

  • Oliver is about to board his flight to Las Vegas. He'll be at the Nvidia keynote and out and about on the CES 2025 showfloor. He's also handing in a video on GRID Legends on iPhone 15 Pro... and it's very, very good!

  • Alex is actually in Las Vegas now for CES 2025. He'll be joining Oliver for various events including the Nvidia keynote and later on in the week, the pair of them will be heading up our CES on-site edition of DF Direct Weekly!

  • Will continues to deliver the goods on Eurogamer and has been helping out with some DF Clips admin to boot. There's a lot going on this week, plenty to cover from CES, so he'll be pretty busy!

So - are we done with PS5 Pro upgrade coverage? We're minded to do Hogwarts Legacy, but do let us know if anything else in the Pro realm or elsewhere should be looked at. In the meantime, Happy New Year!

Ah man, didn’t know if you guys would risk the potential legal poo-storm around PS4 emulation. Super excited to see that video!

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the most obvious Would like to see that. Under boost mode and with the Pro Patch. Would probably need a disc copy to check boost unfortunately. It’s noticeable issues in ACT 3 is a big one.

I though Act 3 was CPU limited on PS5? If so, then I'd imagine there'd be little benefit considering the minor CPU upgrade the PS5 Pro received.

Xfiles_Frohikee

Oliver and Alex. The dynamic duo. Can't wait for the great reporting and content they will have.

Look at ps5 Games that most need a Pro Patch and thoughts on what tweaks developers could do. Then Indiana Jones on a PC with similar specs to the PS5 Pro speculation what kind of upgrades it could get over the SX version. I know this is a Rich Special. Even possibly look at Forza Horizon 5 as that is rumoured to come to PS5 this year.

There's been an emerging story about BATTLEMAGE having some gnarly CPU overhead that causes it to perform unexpectedly poorly on a wide variety of more affordable CPU platforms. I'd like to see DF's testing on this to see if there's any extra insight to be had, or if there's any ways around it.

Worth taking a look at for the B570 video. My guess is that it will be no worse than Arc A750. I think there's a good argument for budget GPUs to be run with the *CPU benchmark suite* - 9800X3D vs something like a 5600.

Roach is quite correct and you'll note that there was Act 3 base vs Pro coverage in the PS5 Pro review, where the Pro was only circa 10% faster.

Dani Ádám

For Pro coverage, I beat Lords of the Fallen on it and it was really good image quality and fps stability wise too, so maybe a good candidate for a quick check. Same with The Crew Motorfest, which gain a lot better image quality in performance mode. And btw, where is the Jedi Survivor Pro fix? Respawn tweeted they know about the problem on november 18th....other games got the fix quite fast.

CES is also not open to the public, so I see no reason why AMD would do a stream only. You want the media there to validate and ooo and awe at everything

For PS5 professional coverage. I played silent Hill 2 and it seems cleaned up now on the pro. What about games like cyberpunk or even the Witcher 3? I no those do not have a pro patch but be curious to see if it does anything for them. Last night I was playing Battlefield 4. I have a checkbox turned on to enhance PS4 games. But there’s certain moments where there is a lot of jaggies or artifacts, kinda like on the screen. And I do not remember if it look like this on PS4 or the base PS five. Or maybe it’s just my TV with that game?

Flight Sim 2024 would still get some love from viewers I’d imagine, not to kill the team after such a grueling holiday. Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV, and Rise of the Ronin might be the remaining big PS5 Pro updates?

Ps5 pro 3 months post mortem… is it worth it?

Snorlax jobless

Agreed we need a 4 way video like the one on fps boost taking a quick look at those 3 and hogwarts… maybe and in the crew which has the most not noticeable pro patches without going side by side for quintuple pleasure

Snorlax jobless

Respawn has one guy doing the job lol… and silent hill has no fix for quality mode

Dani Ádám

Really just one dev working on the Pro patch? Where did you read or heard that?

The Invisible Man

will you be covering the Switch 2 joycon dual mouse features?

Will

Subside on PSVR2. Released late December and its probably the best looking title on the platform, it looks amazing and it's all made by just one guy. If anyone gets a spare 5 minutes at least try the free demo, you'll want to take a deeper dive...probably too niche for a vid but perhaps a hat tip in an upcoming direct?

Richard Leadbest

Will we have to wait until Saturday for the DF Direct?

trayracer

Looking forward to the Bloodborne video Tom!
