Day 44

The wasteland is becoming increasingly inhospitable. The dry, cracked earth stretches endlessly, dotted with the skeletal remains of structures that once housed bustling cities. Now, they are nothing more than ghostly silhouettes against a bleak horizon.

Every step is a struggle, and I can feel my body deteriorating. The heat, the dust, and the constant exposure to radiation are taking their toll. My promotion from amateur to full on ranger sure didn't feel like a promotion anymore.

Jeff, my boss back at the base, keeps pushing me to consider mechanization. He says it’s the only way to survive out here for long. I’ve seen other rangers who’ve taken his advice—they move with an unnatural ease, their metallic limbs glinting in the harsh sun.

Part of me recoils at the thought of becoming more machine than man, but as I feel my muscles weaken and my joints ache, I realize I might not have a choice.

The world isn’t what it used to be. After the Great Collapse, everything changed. Nature turned against us, and the remnants of humanity struggle to adapt. Resources are scarce, and every day is a fight for survival. My mission is to scavenge anything useful from these ruins and bring it back to the base. But each day, the task grows more daunting.

My only saving grace is the fact that tomorrow is a day off, to recover off the damages our body suffered throughout the day. Jeff wanted to show me something and invited me out for a beer. I wonder what he wanted to show me…

Day 46

I finally gave in and got my arms upgraded. Jeff was right; the difference is night and day. My new arms are sleek and powerful, made of a lightweight alloy that doesn’t corrode easily. They’re stronger than any flesh and bone I ever had.

The sensation is odd, though what’s surprising is that they still allow me to feel things when I want to, a feature Jeff calls “sensory mimicry.” It’s strange, feeling through metal, but at least I don’t experience pain anymore when I venture outside. The constant ache from radiation burns and muscle fatigue is a thing of the past and I don't miss it.

With these new arms, I ventured out to explore one of the massive ruins I’d been eyeing for weeks. It was once a towering skyscraper, now a crumbling behemoth. The top floors have collapsed, leaving the whole structure leaning precariously, as if a slight breeze could send it tumbling.

The lower levels are filled with debris and remnants of the old world—shattered glass, rusted metal, and decayed furniture. And now I could finally make my way through the rubble, my new arms effortlessly lifted beams and debris that would have been impossible for me to move before.

Inside, I found remnants of old tech and supplies. There were broken computers, decayed books, and some long-expired food rations. But the real treasure lies in the upper levels, which are almost impossible to reach without advanced equipment.

I’ve heard rumors of valuable materials and untouched technology hidden up there, just waiting for someone capable enough to retrieve them. Perhaps these new arms will help me find a way. They’re strong and agile, but I still need to figure out how to scale the more dangerous sections of the ruin.

It sounds dangerous, and honestly, it might be humanly impossible, but at least now I feel a renewed sense of purpose. These upgrades are making me more efficient, more capable. I can sense the potential in these ruins, the untapped resources that could greatly benefit our base.

The challenge is daunting, but with these new arms, I feel like I have a fighting chance. Jeff may have been right about mechanization; it’s starting to feel like the key to surviving and thriving in this harsh world.

Day 48

I decided to upgrade my chest, and it’s a mixed bag. Breathing is now much easier; my new mechanized heart pumps steadily without struggling against the toxic air. The sensation of effortless breathing is liberating.

No more gasping for breath or feeling my lungs burn with every intake of the wasteland’s polluted atmosphere. But the aesthetics… Jeff’s modifications have given me a more feminine appearance—narrow shoulders and, to my surprise, slight bumps on my chest.

Who am I kidding, they are full on larger than C-cup breasts on my chest. It’s more than concerning, to say the least. Jeff promises to look into it, but for now, I have to live with this new body.

The pain in my eyes has been growing worse the deeper I venture into the wasteland. Each day, the burning sensation intensifies, making it nearly impossible to see clearly. But the ruins still call to me, their hidden treasures locked away in the highest, most inaccessible places.

The building I’m focused on is a toppled giant, once a proud skyscraper, now a leaning monolith filled with valuable materials. The lower levels are a graveyard of rubble and debris, but the upper floors, precariously perched and tantalizingly out of reach, hold the promise of untouched resources.

Damn, I am really sounding like a poet by now with how much hope this ruin holds for me, aren’t I? I wonder if poetry can be up there as well.

That being said, for now, it's still just a pipe dream. Even with my upgraded arms, scaling the ruin is a daunting and near impossible task. The skeletal remains of the building are unstable, and every step is a gamble. But I can't help but feel like the rewards could be immense.

I’ve heard tales of advanced tech and preserved supplies hidden in these upper floors, remnants from before the Great Collapse. My new chest enhancements make breathing easier, which in turn make climbing slightly easier as well, but my eyes just keep getting worse. The strain is becoming unbearable and I am really considering upgrading them next. The constant burning and blurriness are making my life hell.

Okay, back one last time to my new mechanized upper body. These things are just too hard to ignore. Let alone how much daintier my upper body looks now. The narrow shoulders and slight build are far removed from the rugged, muscular frame I once had. Like I am stronger, because of course, but this is really unsettling.

I’m not sure if it’s a bad thing or not, but the “breasts” do bother me. If I didn’t know any better I would say Jeff put me through a female protocol of Mechanization. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow when he gets back to me with what he found out. I just hope the next upgrade doesn’t come with more unexpected changes.

Day 51

Still no luck with the ruins, but I was at the verge of blindness, so Jeff promptly decided to upgrade my entire head. Great. Now I have the head of a beautiful robot-girl, complete with long purple hair and an almost otherworldly charm. Even greater. Exactly what I needed.

Turns out my upgrades were set to “Mecha-Lamia”, the newest model. Jeff only told me this after the fact. What an asshole. At least my eyes no longer hurt, so that's a plus. But now my new face has clean, smooth skin with soft, almost delicate facial features that I never imagined on anyone, let alone myself. There were also now long, pointy ears that extended from my head, which added quite the inhuman touch to my appearance.

My eyes are now a striking purple and their functionality is astounding. They not only provide perfect vision but also come with a scanning function that allows me to see in low light and through certain materials.

Oh yeah, and Energy lines run from my eyes down my cheeks, giving my face a futuristic, robotic look. It’s like something out of a sci-fi movie, and I can hardly believe this is real. And then there is the long purple hair that cascades down my back, much to my dismay.

At least it's sleek and shiny, and people have already complimented me on how good they look on me. The blend of mechanical and organic features is so seamless, making me look like a character from a fantasy world.

In any case, with this improved vision, I’ve managed to spot even more treasures hidden within the ruins. I can now see even the finest details and detect movements from great distances. The scan function is also incredibly useful, allowing me to map out and navigate the unstable ruins with ease.

I can identify weak points in structures and find paths that were previously invisible to me. Though that is also my biggest downfall I feel like. Now I can SEE that up there, at the very top, there is a lot of really valuable stuff. I have seen from hardware, to computers to other materials everything.

It tempts me. I’m noticing how I am slowly becoming more willing to do anything to get my hands on those precious materials. There is no doubt that each upgrade makes me more capable, more efficient. The thought of what I can achieve with my new body is exhilarating, yet is it worth sacrificing my humanity for it?

I don’t know. For now I’ll stay away from the final few upgrades. This project “Mecha-Lamia” just doesn't sound too safe for me. And unless Jeff comes up with a really good argument for more upgrades, I’ll stay like this for now.

Day 53

I’ve really done it now. My legs are gone, replaced by a super long mechanized snake tail. Jeff made it sound so appealing, and I couldn’t resist. The tail is sleek, flexible, and incredibly strong, allowing me to maneuver through the ruins with ease. I’ve lost my manhood too and I have also already mourned for it quite a bit.

Apparently, lamias, even robo lamias, are all female. This change was the hardest to accept so far, but I’ve come to terms with it. The benefits are just undeniable, because now I can finally do what I wanted to do for such a long time.

At long last I can finally climb the ruins with ease now.

Needless to say, today's expedition was an absolute success. With my new tail, I scaled the crumbling skyscraper and accessed areas no one else could reach. The tail's grip is exceptional, wrapping around beams and ledges to support my weight and keep me steady. It did everything and it was so easy to use.

I found a stash of old tech, including functioning solar panels, medical supplies, and even some preserved food. These are invaluable finds that will significantly boost our base’s resources. The climb felt like it should have been treacherous, but the tail made it feel almost effortless, allowing me to climb up even when entire stories of the building were missing.

Okay, let me talk a little bit more about what happened to me. My lower body now moves with a fluid grace, the likes of which I have never seen before. No other person can traverse the roughest terrain and climb the highest buildings without breaking a sweat like me.

The snake tail feels like an extension of myself, but it’s hard to accept it. Not too long ago, I had two legs and a third leg between them after all. Even if each upgrade made me more efficient and more capable, I also feel like I have lost a little something every time I did it.

My reflection on any surface shows a figure that’s increasingly difficult to recognize. The long, sinuous tail and my beautiful but dainty upper body are a far cry from the rugged ranger I once was.

Despite my regrets, I think the results speak for themselves. The haul from today’s expedition alone is one of the best I’ve ever had. The solar panels alone are a game-changer, providing a sustainable energy source for our base. The medical supplies will save lives, and the preserved food will keep us going for weeks.

I stayed neutral to Jeff's push for mechanization for a while, because people saw it as so controversial. But now, I really do see his point. He might be an asshole for not telling me what he was turning me into beforehand, but as I keep adapting to my new form, I can’t help but wonder what other upgrades he is working on with his research crew.

But for now, I’ll focus on using what I have to get the most out of this wasteland. And who knows, maybe another promotion is waiting in the wings for me.

After all, I am the most nimble and fast ranger of all now.

What did it cost? I’m a mecha lamia now. What did you think it cost?
