The sound of the cannon firing was intense, but the air pressure against Ryder's face was even more pressing. Though, for some reason, he couldn’t help himself but smile. This might have been the single most awesome and stupid thing Ryder had ever done, and he regretted none of it.
As he flew through the air he was soon encompassed by the fog he had passed through earlier on the way down. “Oh I guess I didn’t think about that, huh?” He thought to himself before disappearing into the fog that hung over the city. As he soared through the mist he felt his body changing, gaining more curvature and a far more feminine shape.
On top of the transformation into a woman Ryder could feel his skin starting to harden, though oddly enough it didn’t feel stiff at all, just durable and tough. On a brief glance, Ryder could see his arms and legs starting to petrify, which for some reason accentuated his already feminine figure even more.
Yet even when the last bit of his body got encased in stone and his manhood simply fell off under the new weight of stone, her flight course didn’t change in the slightest, like it had always been designed for her stone form. And thus, as she came closer to the temple, she began to grin wildly.
But Ryder also realized that she was on her best way to shoot past the entrance and up the tower which shouldn’t have surprised her when she really stopped to think about it. So she extended her fingers which in turn turned into large stoney claws and prepared herself for impact, knowing that she was about to land on the side of the highest floor of the tower.
Her claws effortlessly dug into the side of the structure and almost on instinct flicked her lengthening tail which looked as if it was made of bone but in truth it was solid granite, but more importantly, it was enchanted just like the rest of her body. As she began climbing up the tower towards its top, Ruby felt excellent, especially when she felt her wings sprout from her back and spread wide. She grinned as she hopped off the tower and flapped her mighty wings to bring her right to the top in seconds, not even realizing how she had stopped referring to herself by her old name.
Horns sprouted atop her head along with her ears becoming pointed all the while her head felt like it was roughed up a bit, getting rid of every memory that wasn’t necessary and started getting flooded with new ones. Ruby was now the mighty gargoyle guardian of the temple as she happily dug her hand and feet claws into the structure beneath her to hold her there as she let out a small roar. Some time ago she may have failed a trial to become a goddess but that mattered to her little, as she felt more than satisfied with the results.
After all, she was now the high guardian of the temple, watching it in the name of Nagisa, and enjoying the view at the top every day. And she was still happy it was her boundless bravery that had landed her at this position, on the highest point anyone had ever reached in Codira.
