LOVED the gossip-train scene, we love women coming together to take a twat down (even if they don't realise it lol)

While I get the appreciation for Eloise, I do want to caution a bit against assuming that Penelope 100% shares her opinions because we got several looks from her in Episode 1 pointing out that she is more of a romantic. She's just the quieter of the two. Similarly, Eloise's points to Daphne are very valid, but she also seems to dismiss the idea that Daphne genuinely does want a husband and family. So, she is "awake" in one sense, as you put it, but she can also be a bit blind to the feelings of others around her if they disagree with her own worldview.

Also, just so you know... the families are very color-coded. So Hastings/Lady Danbury will be in Black/Red a lot, the Bridgertons are often in "Bridgerton Blue", the Featherington colors are yellow and green (which Penelope hates, especially the yellow), etc. There's also a lot of foreshadowing/hinting when characters deviate from their usual color scheme.

Yeah Eloise has always frustrated me a little because she seems to be one of those women who because she doesn’t want a husband or children she seems to look down on the women who do not, nor does she really understand that wanting other things isn’t a luxury that most women (of their time) have. Especially Daphne as an eldest daughter who basically makes or breaks the reputation of her sisters.

The Bridgertons are kind of special when it comes to their outlook on marriage in the sense that compared to a lot of other people in the Ton, they do believe that a love marriage is attainable because their parents experienced it.

I love that your response to Berbrooke being a shit was “just fucking kill him” cause that is EXACTLY the response I had to him 😭😭😭

Just a heads up, I was accidentally spoiled for Lady Whistledown's identity because I googled the cast and under the person's name it said their character/Lady Whistledown. Be careful! I think I was only a few episodes in when I was spoiled and it was disappointing that I didn't get the impact of the full reveal later on.

Oh shit thank you for this! If I need any more help I know someone has commented a big list on the first episode so will just go with that now

Love that you're enjoying the show so far. Lady Danbury is definitely one of my favorites, if not my top favorite character. I just love how elegant and classy she is, but also strong willed and speaks her mind, stylish, and likes to smoke lol

Your Grace is not used for Royalty. Its a term for those who are Dukes or Duchess (unless your a royal Duke then its Royal Highness). The other group that gets to be Called your Grace is Archbishops. These are the British rules.

And yes most ladies, would know absolutely nothing about sex or reproduction. And I mean not a single thing. It would not come up. They are taught they aren't allowed to be alone at any time or any situation with a man, without a chaperone, or if its one of the men/ boys of their own immediate family.

In this time you would ask for the hand of the woman in question to the head of the house (which in most cases would be her father). If you had were lucky an had a kind and caring father, he would give permission to ask the woman. But in many cases the head of house would accept on behalf of the woman in question. Anthony is not his father, but he is the head of the house. Thus he has the authority to grant it. Now Anthony is a product of his time and there are three things that make him accept for Daphne. One he understands he can't marry for love. Doing so would ruin everyone in his family. Two Daphne herself has told him how desperate her situation is and how her failure to marry successfully impacts not just her but her sisters as well. Three (and likely the kicker) - His mother put him in his place, talking about how his father would have already made an arrangement. That shame about the comparison with his father, pushes him more then anything to do exactly what his Mom said his father would do..... Clearly of course not seeking Daphne thoughts on a suitor is where he is in the wrong (even if technically it's his right). But once his word is given, it's a dishonor on him to break that word. And as head of house his dishonor travels with the family. Now why would they be shocked to see other suitors. Once a proposal has been made, it's customary for other suitors not to approach. You give the lady (or family) the time to make a decision. Of course the higher you are in rank the rules apply less, and less. Berbrooke has proposed, Anthony accepted on Daphne's behalf (I know, seriously Yikes). Thus No one should be there. Since no one was courting her previously Anthony didn't move with haste to have it announced. That explains why Anthony and why Berbrooke are shocked. Of course thinks to the gossip, Berbrooke dishonor washing away any concerns for propriety. Thus no shame on the Bridgerton's for word being broken and marriage cancelled.

Anthony knew the Duke for years before the Duke's father passed. Yet Anthony knows how serious the Duke has been in making clear he will never marry. So you finally see why the Duke isn't going to marry. And you understand why Anthony is utterly convinced that there is no chance that the Duke would ever consider marrying Daphne. Another piece in why he didn't take the interest of the Duke seriously. And thus concerned why the Duke is showing so much interest in her (typically this would be to take a woman's virtue).

A father who makes Luke appear lucky to have such a loving and carrying father named Vader......
