You absolutely should watch Queen Charlotte! It's not a straight prequel and develops some side characters in ways that make you understand their actions better in S3. Best I could do without spoilers!! Lol consider it S2.5.

Yes watch Queen Charlotte, it is soo good. I also vote for watching it between seasons 2 and 3 of Bridgerton

My take on a few scenes this episode: I do not think Lady Featherington is trying to be cruel to Marina, I think she is just being practical and from her perspective, she is doing the right thing in securing a future for her and her child. Of course it's unacceptable by today's standards, but I truly think she does not know any better. On Anthony: Anthony feels the weight of his responsibilities more than I think we realize and he simply wants to make the right decision in every situation, even though we know he doesn't always. I think much of his frustration is directed at himself for not making the right decision the first time. On Eloise: I think she is so bitter at having 3 brothers that can do whatever they like and having a sister like Daphne, who couldn't be more different from her, and she desperately wants someone to validate the way she feels about society and the 'marriage mart' and she really had that in Penelope and though it's not Pen's fault, that really shocked Eloise. On Lady Bridgerton: She is a wonderful mother who wants a love match for all her children, even though it is rare. LOVE HER!

The second is there to prepare the weapons and ensure the rules are followed, according to google. Also yes, Simon was giving up in the duel. He was refusing to marry Daphne, but he knew it was wrong of him to do what he did, so he was willing to give up his life to make up for it

Lady Featherington while not gentle about what she is doing is actually being realistic. Marina fate in most cases would be cast out on the streets. While she has suitors it's common for the marriage to take time before it happens once you become engaged. You actually need a special license to marry early. And she is getting ever so nearer to where she might visibly start showing. While the suitors may be unaware of the birth cycle and its impact on the female form. The mothers would not be. If she is caught trying to entangle a suitor when she is pregnant already would be a massive scandal. She would be ruined. Just ruined. Her family would be marked by the scandal, and that shame would follow the house that she is currently residing in. It would make them pariahs, As for the older lord. She states he is in need of an heir he will not care if its not his. Titles and estates transfer to male heirs (there are a handful of exceptions) If you don't have one your family can loose not only their standing but their financial security. There are always people even in society that have difficulty in acquiring mates. At his age, not only might you find it difficult to get a respectful (in the eyes of society) partner, you may not be able to conceive as easily as when you were younger. Marrying a respectful women (who happens to be pregnant already) is a win win for someone in his situation. (this is also likely the situation with he gentleman from eh previous episode. You get married retire tot he countryside, where she gives birth. And you don't show yourselves back into society until enough time as passed that no one would realize the timeline issue.

Anthony of course does have pride, and he is very much being a very harsh critic of himself. But it is literally his job in society to guard his families honor. When Daphne says she can live with it. Notice she makes no mention on how her dishonor would ruin her sisters, and stain the males in the family line. But the it would ruin the chances for the younger women in her household. She has three sisters. And she doesn't even consider how her ruin would also ruin them. Anthony on the other hand nearly immediately mentions how this isn't just about her, but how it impacts his sisters and the rest of the family. Scandal especially of the sexist nature of this type of scandal, is exceedingly harsh.

And yes Simon was aiming wide, thus leaving himself to take fire honorably for his violation. While Anthony was aiming to shoot. Now you can see that Anthony struggles with it (Simon is his closest friend), but he takes his job as end of house very seriously. So he does fire.

And it's not a hard choice for Daphne at all. She is told the Duke can't give her children. But her choice is that Cressida would absolutely let out that she was in the dark walk alone with a man. That would become the biggest news of the season. Her family would become pariahs. Now if it wasn't for the fact that the Prince was connected to Daphne, the family would have it easier. Easier meaning because they have money, they could just travel abroad where the scandal would have little real impact on their situation. Ie travel to America use your money to start up your family there, the girls would be ok, the guys would be fine. But since the prince is directly related to the royal family, the scandal would reflect exceedingly poorly on the Prince of this poor judgement and the Queen herself for pushing the match. They would have to be quite forceful in fighting that dishonor. The best and surest way of doing so is to come down exceedingly hard on the Bridgerton family. Meaning it's a real possibility that the Crown would seize the family title and the family estates. Making the entire family not poor, but with vastly less resources. So that moving abroad would be a much more difficult journey and would lead the family into a much harder life. Staying in England would not be something you would even want to consider. So yes Daphne has a very easy choice.

Highly. Highly. Highly recommend Queen Charlotte. Can't recommend it enough! And it is referenced in Bridgerton S3, so you should watch it between s2 & s3. 100% Besides it diving into the 'relationship that changed everything' in the Bridgerton universe... it let's you learn so much more about some of the mamas in the Ton. Like Lady Danburry, Dowager Bridgerton, etc.
