Idk what they put into the recipe for this season but holy fuck, I am gripped. This episode was a heavy one but we LOVE to see some backstories so definately my fav of the season!

its touched on more in the book but the reason anthony thinks he would be the cause of the pain is because he believes that he will die at the age of 38, the same age his father was when he died, because he “simply couldn’t imagine himself surpassing his father in any way, even in years”

SO excited to watch this one! I think it might be my favorite episode of the series (though, ep6 of Queen Charlotte is a totally close 2nd, if not tied for #1)

Eloise mentioned in s1 that Daphne sang to her to distract her from the screams of Violet’s labour, so I love that they included that in the flashback

I think because Anthony was the one who had to step up and be both Viscount & parent since Violet was in the throes of grief, he might identify more with being the cause of pain because he was surrounded by grief without ever getting the chance to grieve himself. Despite coming across cold, he’s had to care for everyone else so it makes sense he’s be more concerned with the person he loves’s grief if he died rather than vice versa.

Lilacs are a type of hyacinth so both are true. I think with violet and Anthony, all feelings are valid and two things can be true. Violet is human & was doing her best & it's understandable that she withdrew in that way. Equally Anthony was so young, had so much responsibility immediately foisted upon him, and violets actions, whilst totally understandable, denied him the opportunity to grieve himself and added to the trauma he was already experiencing. I've seen people criticise Anthony for telling violet how her actions affected him, and people criticise violet for not managing to pull it together for his sake, but neither of them are "in the wrong", we can feel empathy for both whilst still acknowledging the impact of each of their actions and not pitting them against each other as some people seem to.
