Commenting as I go along with the reaction. Francesca and Eloise are "Miss Bridgerton" because they're out in society, so it's improper to call them by their first name until they're engaged basically (*cough* Colin calling Pen "Pen" constantly *cough*). Hyacinth is not of marriageable age, so it's OK to call her by her name.

The urge to just skip straight to your reaction to the ending is real. I'll have to wait till I get off work then 😓

This one....man.....*fans self*

I do think an important aspect of understanding Colin's reactions in 3 and 4 (and going forward) is that he genuinely didn't know that Penelope had feelings for him. He still doesn't know how far back it goes. He can tell Pen was enthusiastic in the carriage, but she also said she really wanted a husband and her one proposal option just rejected her, so there's still that level of insecurity that her feelings for him aren't as deep as his are for hers. It can be easy to overlook that because we, as the audience, have known about her feelings since the beginning.

I think it's also worth pointing out that Debling said part of the reason for his travels is he dislikes his family (that's how he was bonding with Cressida). Penelope, who wants to get married to get away from her own problematic family, might have ended up in the same situation elsewhere.

In the book, (there was no Debling) Colin found out Penelope was Lady Whistledown, got into the carriage with her to confront her about it, and *cues carriage scene*, so it was definitely a *choice* to have them go into this scene with him unaware. Then again, in the book, he and Marina weren't a thing (he didn't have real feelings for anyone before he figured out his feelings for Pen) so he also had less reason to be directly affected by Whistledown.

The song for the carriage scene is a strings version of Pitbull Give Me Everything, which is an insane choice for Bridgerton, but it works! Can't remember if you're aware but this was the first season to be split in half so there was a month wait until the next episode. Given how big the audience for this show is, safe to say the Internet lost its collective mind when it finished on that scene lol. The oldest unmarried girl in a family is referred to as Miss (surname) and any other girls out in society are Miss (first name). Pen was always referred to as Miss Penelope in 1&2 (except by Colin obviously who's never followed a single rule when it came to her) and it's only now her older sisters are both married she's Miss Featherington.

I have a whole thesis of an opinion about Cressida, or, rather, her story arc. But I'm worried I might accidentally throw a spoiler in there, so, I'll save it! But I do have insight on Penelope's thoughts in the mirror before the ball, because I've seen that same struggle on my own face, before. Poor beautiful Penelope had a moment of liking what she saw in the mirror. And the look on her face afterwords was her internally berating herself for it. She was 100% hearing her mother's voice in her head at that moment. "Don't be silly, Penelope. You're lucky to have a proposal at all, Penelope. If he wanted you why hasn't he said so, Penelope??!" It's so sad but so relatable! And, to be clear, I actually like Portia very much and think she's just...who she is. I haven't read the books yet (but I'm planning to, so please, don't correct me if you know! I'll find out!) But my headcanon for Portia is that she came from basically nothing. She caught the eye of a Baron who, despite being nothing much to her, was a ticket out and up. She's practical to a fault, and I wonder what happened to her to make her so. Anyway! Loved it!!! 😍

Oh!!! And now I can FINALLY say, notice how each season of Bridgerton (excluding Queen Charlotte) has one interesting thing in common? Episode 4 ends with a proposal! Drove me crazy when I noticed it! Lol

I love this episode, the confession in the carriage always gives me butterflies! I love the choice to have Colin fully take a chance and tell Penelope how he feels without knowing that she’s been in love with him for years.

Hali

The scene of Colin laying in his bed like he’s ill just miserable and love sick is so funny 😭😭😭 Bro’s been in love for a few weeks and already can’t take it, he might be more of a loverboy than Penelope

Hali

I wouldn’t have wanted Penelope to accept Debling’s proposal either, mostly because she’s never been put first her entire life. If she was in a marriage where she was playing second best to Debling’s true passions I don’t think she’d ever be secure in herself or happy
