Ah yes many years ago in a 4E game. We had a problem to say the least, we were under a time limit we needed to save people we captured someone who knew where the bad guys where but wouldnt tell us, so my character and another character took this NPC away and tortured him until we got the info to save a bunch of people. Other memebrs of the party protested after but it was the only way to get what we needed to know to save a load of people from a horrible death. We done what needed to be done nope we were not punished for it as no one knew as well as the fact its in a fantasy world based on medieval times :-P

Oh yeah, games often come to a situation where torturing someone seems like the best path of action. We've been there too haha
