Hello, Denizens of the Tower

I did a hag lair almost a year ago. It was one of my earliest isometric maps. I decided to revisit the idea and also add some interesting story to come with it. Here the lore is about a night hag that formed her on coven over the course of a little more than a decade.

Due to her nature, she destroyed plenty of people's lives in the process. Be sure to read it, it's a cool story and it really goes into the evil doing of hags.

The PDF does not include detailed descriptions for the numbered areas in the lair, it's just lore. I decided to include a numbered version for people who would like to prep for it.

This is perfect timing, as a hag has just moved into the Phandalin area (our party decided to stay around Phandalin after Lost Mines was complete). Thanks!

This is actually great timing for me, as I am about to prepare a Hag encounter. I was reading through and possibly found one small typo. On page 4 it says "The priest QUESTION Mary and came to the conclusion that she was just an ordinary child, maybe a bit mischievous, but what child was not like that?".

That's.... Interestingly dark. Thanks. Something like a reverse alien from the movies. 🤔 I'm a fan of those old naturalistic things and while we're talking about a thinking being... It was rather interesting. Did you get inspiration from something?

Oh yeah Simone, let me confess what my secret weapon is. It's the MONSTER MANUAL! hahahaha yeah every bit of dark lord in that story is actually in the night hag's description. The baby-eating, the giving birth to a strange child that becomes a witch at age 13. The thing is, the book has so many monsters people have not read them all. Many of my stories actually grab from there and people comment on the creativity ;)

It's rather dull to read after 20 pages of monster description. So sometimes for my stories I grab a monster and write a more digestible form of description to introduce all that lore buried in the manual.

oh.... it escaped me and my edition software. Thanks for letting me know. I'll probably not fix the PDF, but I'll fix it in my online library of adventures.

Uhm... Weird. I remember old monster manuals having ecology, description of societies and everything. But the newer ones had basically nothing. 🤔

Pepperridge Farm remembers.... yeah the thing is the layout is strange IMO. The monster entries all have a very shallow description at first. And then they have some more info in bullet points, That's where cool bits are but I find myself often skipping them. It should have been just a big block of text I guess haha

2021-11-06 07:44:58 Nah. What i meant is that usually in those bullet points are at most weird powers of the monsters or how to use them in combat. I rarely saw anything useful about the monster after D&D 3.0

Incidentally 4e is the edition i like best of all of them. The most balanced. The one where 2 characters of same levels don't do 1d6 damage per round one and 64464325689^32 the other. But for some reasons most players do not like balance, they like that if they show their work they can outdo all other players. 😖 Also it was plagued by an idiotic layout which meant that it took about 3 manuals to get to have a decent choice per level for any one character. Otherwise you'd be stuck with about 4 powers to choose from at each level up. And that is bad. Also they went away from the OGL and that was worse. But all in all i think they moved away from it when it was about ready to do its business in a decent way. 😖
