586 Visage of Sand (Patreon)

Traveler! The eternal dunes of the Shriveled Desert are a changing environment that buries and unearths relics from past civilizations following the unknown whims of the weather. An obscure cult known as the Sandstorm Celebrants follow a charismatic leader that promised them the gift of immortality. The cultist claimed that by surrendering their lives to the desert sands they would await in a dormant state for 66 years and then be reborn in new immortal shells.

Fifty years after their collective ritual suicide, the temple of the Sandstorm Celebrants has been unearthed and explorers are aware of it. Several exploring parties went there before the PC characters learn of the site of interest. Those adventurers did not return. Now there is gossip of a great treasure buried there, with mighty guardians and deadly traps!

This is a level 5 adventure with a bit of role-playing, dungeon-crawling in a dangerous buried temple, and access to a dangerous relic that may or may not give the gift of immortality. Here's a low-def preview of this illustration:

Here's a close-up of the Chamber of Enlightening Descent. Here is where the Sandstorm Celebrants jumped to their deaths in the temple to become husks of themselves before being reborn with immortality.

In the deepest reaches of the temple, there is an artifact of untold power. The Visage of Sand collects energy for decades before releasing it in a foul resurrection ritual. The characters may be the only ones with the chance to thwart the celebrants' plans before the temple is buried again in the desert.
