The Ghoul calling the dog "Dogmeat" was huge for fans of the game. Dogmeat is the name of your dog in the fallout 3 game. people got real attached to dogmeat in the game because he's a badass. when the dog appeared in the first episode, gamers knew it was dogmeat but the Ghoul officially called him "Dogmeat" for the first time in the show which confirmed it is the dog from the games. so cool of the show to keep the name the same.
