According to reports, the production team had to cut a lot of the Númenor scenes during post-production, which is why I think that storyline feels a bit rushed. The source material is much more detailed on the rise of Ar-Pharazôn. The eagle scene was merely included to show the moment that further enshrined the legitimacy of Ar-Pharazôn in the eyes of the nobility. The political conflict in Númenor had already escalated at that point, and many favored Ar-Pharazôn (brother of former king) over Míriel (daughter of former king). It was not meant to suggest that the eagle was the reason why he was chosen as king, and I wish they explained that better.

I felt the same way here, but also during the introduction of Halbrand in S1 Ep2. In ep1 of S2 they showed his background extensively. So maybe the show will do somethig similar wth Ar-Pharazôn and the eagle in S3.

Returning to the backstory of Sauron made sense because they had to explain how he ended up on the raft, and why Adar thinks he killed Sauron. For Ar-Pharazôn, we already know his backstory through the source material. The eagle scene is not relevant to his political trajectory, so I doubt it will be explained. Season 3 will almost certainly be about Númenor, and it will be much darker than season 2. Looking forward to seeing how they are going to depict Númenor in the coming season.

Great stuff! I'm always fascinated with the backlash to this story being told, with most of the complaining to be about it "not following lore". When this isn't even really based on anything concrete. They're just interpreting small bits of information in the way they see fit. Those people need to either just enjoy it for what it is (an awesome fantasy epic), or just check out and enjoy the books.

Another great episode. Things are really moving along with the story of the rings, and the show is giving us the story of their forging, their effect on the Dwarves, the strife they are causing among the Elves. The Numenorean stuff I find least interesting, as I don't usually go in for political storytelling, so imagine my surprise when the most moving part of the episode for me happened on Numenor. I am still not over losing Valandil or the way he was killed. I am interested to see how this informs Elendil's actions and his story moving forward on the show.

My favourite episode so far! As entertaining as action sequences are, it's the drama I really love, particularly Sauron's/Annatar's manipulation of Celebrimbor which is just *chef's kiss*

We do know that the elvish rings were made last, and without any direct input of Sauron, but rather using the methods they learned from him as Annatar. They were made by Celebrimbor alone. And we do know some timeline. Sauron was with the elves for almost 300 years when the 16 rings were created. And then around 90 years later Celebrimbor made the 3 elvish rings. And then Sauron made the One Ring around 10 years after that.
