Writer's Commentary: Red Sonja and the Wedding of the Spider-God (Patreon)

Happy Friday Patrons, I hope you all have a good weekend ahead of you! I'm back with yet another writer's commentary, this one on my second Red Sonja story, "Red Sonja and the Wedding of the Spider-God"! This is probably one of my shortest tales, as it's only two parts, but I pack a lot into this short story. 

This one came about as part of a contest my friend Destro was throwing on his Deviantart page. At the time, I had just published the first installment of Damsels Anonymous volume 1, was at work on volume 2, and had also accepted my first ever story commission. Destro and I had followed each other on Deviantart for a while and I think spoken a few time via the notes feature, but eventually he reached out to me to tell me how much he enjoyed Damsels Anonymous and our friendship really blossomed from there. Eventually, he told me that he was holding a "forced wedding" story contest on his page where he was having various writers submit stories featuring forced, bondage themed weddings, and he asked me to submit a story. 

At first I was hesitant since I was working on other projects at the time, but Destro encouraged me to come up with a story so I gave it some thought. I realized that I had a few disparate Red Sonja scenarios bouncing around in my head and started wondering if I could weave them together into a story. One idea that I tossed around was one that would pick up where my last Sonja story left off with Aela and Ghedron being sold as slaves. In my idea, the two would get free and would pursue Sonja for revenge. Somehow, the three ladies would end up out in a uncharted, wild area of Hyboria where they would get chased down by natives. The natives would find themselves taken by Sonja's red hair so Ghedron and Aela would trade Sonja to the natives in exchange for their own safety, and the natives would gag Sonja, strip her, and then paint her nude body as part of a ritual where she would be forced to wed an effigy of their God. Ghedron and Aela would leave but get lost wandering the wastes, and find themselves circling back to the native camp where Sonja had eventually settled into her role as Queen and would have her men capture and bind and gag the two women for selling her out. Eventually though, Ghedron and Aela would escape, abduct Sonja from her bed while she slept, and escape with her bound and gagged as their hostage to insure the natives let them go in peace.

My other idea was inspired by a pic I had seen on Gia Macool's instagram of her cosplaying as Sonja. As you all know, Gia Macool is one of my favorite models and is the inspiration for the character of Gina in my Damsels Anonymous stories, but after seeing her in Red Sonja's signature chain-mail bikini, I came up with another idea. In this story, Gia would be a rogue like character who abducted Sonja and stole her armor in an effort to pose as Sonja in order to infiltrate somewhere. Of course, Gia's deception would be discovered since she didn't have Sonja's red hair, leading to her captor's binding and gagged her. 

I sort of built the story of the Spider-God around this scenario and this character. I've always been a big fan of mummification bondage and spider web bondage but had never written a scene with them yet, and I realized that Red Sonja's fantasy setting was a perfect opportunity to finally include the She-Devil getting cocooned in webbing. The idea of Sonja slowing being webbed while struggling to free herself was just too sexy to pass up and I came up with the idea of a Spider-God around this. 

Unlike my previous stories, all of the scenarios in this one came from my own imagination and weren't based on/inspired by scenes I had seen before. At this point after writing Damsels Anonymous and a few other stories I was starting to branch out and do my own stuff.

If you've read my Mystica stories, you may recognize the name Sol, The Spider-God, and that the character of Lexa was a high priestess for this God. Yep, that's the same Sol the Spider-God that's in this story, so if you're keeping track at home that means that my Captive Sorceress story, my Mystica stories, and Red Sonja stories all take place in the same universe while my Lara Croft stories take place in the Damsels Anonymous stories. Now, like I said, for rights reasons Red Sonja probably won't be popping up my Mystica stories but I can guarantee you that this isn't the last you've seen of Sol The Spider-God. 

This tale ends rather badly for Sonja, who finds herself cocooned and hauled away by some villains to an unknown fate. I still do have some Sonja ideas at the back of my head, and I never say never so maybe one day I'll pick back up Sonja's story, but I also like open endings like this because it allows readers to use their imaginations to fill in what happens to the poor heroine. At first I had considered writing more tales about Gia's Queen of Thieves character, but seeing how she ends up transformed into the Spider-Queen at the end of this, I wasn't sure where to go with her unless I wrote prequels.
